  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PRO IO update

The Pro I/O has both Genlock and Time Code connectors, but no trigger. If I am using the 3BNC to 00 Sync Cable, which will have priority?
In other words, will attaching the Pro I/O override the EPIC rear connector? We have duplication of GL and TC, but not trigger (unless the GPI can be configured to that function)

Yes, there are RED ONE style GPIO trigger ports on the PRO I/O and you can set priority between "Brain" and "Rear Module" in the UI for the above functions.

Stuart,
Appreciate the fast reply. Just one bit of clarification... If I have the Pro I/O attached and set priority, is it per individual function or "all 3 at once" via Brain or RM?

Why the detail...
1. Genlock: not really a factor - either Brain or RM would work equally well.

2. Time Code: I really like the standard time code connector on the Pro I/O versus the limitations of the simple BNC connector on the sync cable. Another great reason to buy the Pro I/O.

3. Trigger: Right now I have the 3 BNC to OO Sync cable which allows units like those sold by SpaceCam to trigger the EPIC using only a BNC cable between the two.
If I need to use the GPIO connector on the RM because that is where I chose to derive the time code, I would likely need another unique adapter (GPIO to BNC)?

3A. Trigger (continued): If the GPIO becomes dedicated to a start/stop trigger function as a result of a dedicated adapter cable, I guess it would be difficult to use that port for another function someday such as triggering a speed ramp?

So, if it were possible to map each individually, one could keep the start/stop trigger on the Brain, access GL and TC on the RM and still have the GPIO available for a future use?
Multiple choice: Present reality, future build or pipe dream?

Thanks for spending part of your weekend with us!

Man I really l want a Base I/O with Mini XLRs and half the size of the pro version.

How about just an Audio In module with Mini XLR's? Could that be built into a module adapter?

Will the View Factor Origo trigger work with the Pro IO GPIO?

The PRO I/O sure makes EPIC, well, EPIC, and it brings up again the concept of MODULARITY, not wanting to take anything away form Jarred's great photo, I wan't post any, but I got to say that the EPIC can now go form a super small DSLR like Bain+Side Handle with lens and LCD or Viewfinder, as a super compact go any were camera, to a now TRAIN LIKE Built up body to include a Side Handle Grip for extra controls, Module Adaptor, PRO I/O Module, for full control, plus a Module Pro Battery Quad, for uninterrupted power, Rear SSD Module, Redmote... I mean this thing is a MONSTER CAMERA NOW, no one can STOP IT!!

And we only have seen but a first batch of accessories and Modules from RED, when I say I can't wait to see what 2013 brings, I'm not joking you, I'm just understating my self... ;)

Any chance we could use a "jumper cable" or "extention cable" between brain and modules. I would like to keep my epic as short as possible for Motion Control use, and have the I/O sitting behind the orbit on the motion control head. 20 cm:s would do. Possible?

That 'snake cable' was mentionned by jarred or jim when epic was in design phase few years ago... Everything changes so do not count on it but we may very well see it if it is still doable...

It is still on the table.. some other things are ahead of it still though. ( cough cough proxy cough cough )

heh heh heh.

another hint :) seems this proxy module is coming quite soon, maybe you can cough out some details :p?

No details on a Proxy module, if it even exists, until it is released.. thats the rules remember :)

How's the Kessler Cineslider treating you?

Haha, PRO I/O looks sick, but I have no idea when it will end up in my hands.

and yet, a hint of disappointment still lingers

a Pro IO module with no 3G or Dual Link HD-SDI outputs
and again, no way to get a 4:4:4 signal out of RED cameras

it seemed so obvious it would have at least 3G
