  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

PRO IO update

I got my pro I/O today and tested the 4 pin lemo aux power with a bartech receiver power cable and 4pin lemo to 4 pin XLR with a TV logic 7" monitor and I got a "unstable voltage warning." I checked the release notes and nothing is stated about this.
Has anyone had this experience?

That may be expected, Paul... I never feed the Bartech/M-One directly from the camera (did so from movie cameras... long ago!) as it´s a sudden 3-4 amps power consumption; the Red Ones tended to shut down often. So I feed it separately through Cannon XLR-4 cable, via a separate battery or AC adaptor when possible (jib, crane)... I would recommend that.

I never managed to power the Bartech from the same battery as the camera on the Red One, as you said it made the camera shut down very often.
However, on the Epic I've been powering the Bartech from the D-Tap of the same battery that powers the camera, and it has been working flawlessly for months now. Not sure it would work from the Lemo power outputs however, the Amp limit may be too low for that.

Hey Guys has anyone had any experience with their EVF/LCD port on their new Pro IO not putting out an image?

Have the latest firmware installed on the camera, the oled evf is on the brain and the LCD is on the pro io but no image is present. The LCD flashes red on startup but no image at all. Tried switching cables and the EVF and LCD but to no avail. the LCD only displays the color chip chart but no image comes after it.

assuming you have the displays active in the settings, it could be your module adapter. Do you have a second one to try?

nope, needed to flash to the beta build. Looking good now.

Normally I would run the bartech off of the Dtap from the v-mount plate or
when on steadicam and powering the camera from the sled, If ran the bartech off of both 12v aux on the redone
when powering with only 1 12v aux i would get stuttering.

So they had this working on the redone. should work on the epic too especially on a dedicated module.

regardless the monitor pulls nothing, that should run no problem.

The lack of Dtap on the camera is an issue. Red needs to settle with viewfactor and WC on integrating the vmount into the Pro IO.

RED please get auxiliaries working. i should be able to power a bartech, preston, scorpio, arri whatever I want off of those aux.

I always had problems running a Bartech on any power connected to Red One including D-Tap. I had to calibrate the Bartech before powering up the Red One.
It would surge when calibrating and shut down the Red One.

I have the same problem as Eric had with just a colour chart showing up on my EVF or LCD when plugged into my Pro IO. Do I have to install the Beta build to get it to work?

Many of you have received yours already, I just wanted to give you an update that the rest of you in backorder should be squared up by the end of July. After we catch up, there will be a production pause for 2 weeks at the start of August as we move around some machines and shipping for new orders will continue along the back-half of August.

The Pro-IO really turns EPIC into a whole new camera ( again ) ..... apart from the obvious EVF/LCD combo there is nothing like having a clean feed jumbotron 8.9" LCD on the top and a nice "little" 5.6" touchscreen on the side to handle all menus and independent exposure check etc. in it's own little world. O.. and having all the ports out the side instead of under the trunk has earned some cheers from AC's over the last couple weeks.

i would love to have my 5" touch lcd mounted sidewards as shown in this picture, but i have no idea where to screw it on the epic...
do i need any adapter or "spacer" to mount it as seen in this picture ?

any ideas anyone ?

Hi Norbert. There's a few ways to accomplish this.

If you don't have the DSMC Side Handle - Tactical Left Bottom Adapter:

If you do have the DSMC Side Handle or simply just want a smaller mounting point - Epic Tactical Adapter Mini:
http://www.red.com/store/products/dsmc-tactical-adaptor-nil-mini

Or if you like the compact size of the above, but want a bit more mounting points in the vertical direction - DSMC Tactical Right Z Adapter:
