  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Picture of a Weapon

I don't understand why certain people are speculating if vista is a carbon exclusive thing. Vista Vision is OBVIOUSLY a new mount option. (Just look closely at Brad's mug. Theres mounting holes on the darn thing.) I speculate that it should work across the line up as it stands including Weapon. It looks to be the same size as the PL, Motion, etc. There's no reason for them to spend R&D money to create a mount exclusive to Weapon when Red keeps harping the Epic/Scarlet line will live on. Just my two cents... We will find out for sure at NAB.

Why would carbon or non carbon have anything to do with the mount or sensor size?

Someone should send this to Sanjin and tell him it's RED's new optical viewfinder. :)

On a serious note. Great effing news!

These two ideas are not mutually exclusive.

Weapon accepts existing mounts as well as the new Vista so yes, it is likely that the new mount will also fit DSMC. It does not follow however, that Epic MX, Epic Dragon or even all Weapon models will somehow inherit the Vista Vision format.

For all we know the Vista Vision format will require two Dragon sensors and only Carbon Weapon will have them. Perhaps Carbon Weapon alone will have a new Dragon 65. These are distinct possibilities.

Just as an FYI:
It may be complete coincidence, but the camera in front of Brad is Epic MX.
I guess this is ok

Perhaps the obvious is coming.... as in, the Weapon Camera sensor will be modular as well, and user swappable.

:)

The fact that my analogue photography obsession may pay off here is very exciting.... it feels like lugging the RB67 around new york on holiday and pissing the misses off by being slow all day might finally pay off!

I've had a couple of Scarlets since the beginning - ordered the night they were announced. Pretty much from the day they arrived they've been in my studio "built"; what I mean is with the top & bottom plate, Module adapter, battery module, monitor, etc. You know; all of the stuff that we bolt on to make it work. Never in 4 years have I really taken them apart or spent any time looking at them. They are a tool, they do a job.

This morning I disassembled them so I can take them back to RED for the Dragon upgrade. And I actually looked at them...

They are already pretty small, if you pull all the excess shite off the top & sides. It would seem that 40% is devoted to cooling? How much smaller could it get?

One other thing that I had forgotten about was this set of contacts on the top of the camera:

Does anyone know what these were intended for? Does it have anything to do with a previous or future plan for monitoring? Did it die and evolve into what's below?

I'm curious about the Lemo Adapter location on the camera?

I've been a bit busy and missed this breaking news ! VISTA !... OMG !! Seriously PRORES AND RAW at the same time ???> no way !!!

I'm so in !!!

HAHA. Yeah. Awesome right??!!

time to dust of the "hasselglass" :)

Or Contax, Leica R, etc, etc. Such good times!

I have a set of cinemodded Hassy's on stand by too, so I'm crazy excited!!

But even great full frame glass is going to be in demand!!

In case you missed this in another thread:

Vista, as you can imagine, will be top shelf. It will be an upgrade option for 6K Weapons though ( another reason for the new body ) so you have a nice upgrade path if Vista is initially out of your reach.
