  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Picture of a Weapon

I think the lens mount area will be the biggest reveal. I'm sure they're saving that one for that very reason.

65 or full frame? you know it!

Yes they will work, but that doesn't mean there isn't something new.
I was just verifying. I'm starting to get a bit scared of NAB... like I should almost stay home because of how much it might end up costing me if I go...

Exciting times!

This monitor mount is as wrong as all since the beginning of the Epic. The orientation order should have been YX not XY, considering Y to be vertical. In other words it should pan first than tilt. Every flip out camcorder got it right.

I have to agree with this. Rotation is greatly limited by the tilt angle. Monitor positioning would be way more flexible if rotation were given priority over tilting.

Keep spillin brah !

Can it be that nobody has repeated this yet?

Air ejection on top and tool-less monitor without wires. Someone on FB said it looks like the monitor reads 8k... and it is difficult to say that it doesn't.

Does it look like the body may be near 3" deep or is it my eyes?

There is some very smart thinking going on at RED from looking at this photo. No cable for monitor is such a great idea. Really liking the form factor. Not having to use a lens is huge.

Can you clarify what you mean by "Not having to use a lens is huge."? Has something been said about that that I missed here? O are people thinking the photo shows an image on the screen and assuming there's no lens. (reference the above photo)
I see the guys shirt reflecting off the screen in that photo. Come on guys… did I miss something here?

Yes you did - WPN is obviously a pinhole camera. This gets us around the lack of good, fast, cheap lenses that cover 65mm.

C'mon, keep up with the rumours. ;)

Shhh. Adam didn't hear about the nano optic layer technology. :)

Lol at the no lens idea, I do however think that that monitor and angle of this camera is very strategically placed to cover where the mount is - we have kind of seen a picture of almost every side of the camera except for the mount.... my mind does wonder.

Yes, they are hiding it quite deliberately. That seems to be the Ace Jarred is keeping up his sleeve. (Or should I say, under Gio's jacket?)

Do you think he will hold it until the show?

You can't possibly know if Dragon is currently windowed down from 8k to 6k in Epic body.

Guys, Dragon is a 6K sensor, getting 8K out of it us upscaling which RED would never do. My guess is that the DR may be wider and some higher speed framerates may be available. Defenitely not an increase in resolution. that is reserved for the next sensor.

I know that I'm going to sound pedantic... But it drives me nuts when people refer to physical sensor size in terms of K.

Agreed, but in RED's case....Dragon 6K does equal a certain sensor size/image circle. There's also nothing to stop RED from making a full frame/5D sized Dragon Sensor in Weapon (ie more of the same pixels across larger canvas) that windows down to 6K Epic Dragon..making both lines "compatible."

I also expect RED too announce some kind of Imax solution for Weapon...Jarred hinted at something months ago after Arri announced the 65...
