  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Picture of a Weapon

Agreed!!! And I really hope they will have a 4k HDMI out option so we can connect it to the many affordable 4k screens out there. (Hopefully red finds a way to implement it at a normal price...like Sony and panasonic have done with their cameras....)

+1 on the 4k HDMI out option... at a normal price.

Jarred, was there any thought about the spacing of the audio jacks? I can just see myself with a fat audio jack and a fat headphone jack and the two not fitting in together.. And also the placement of the jacks as I think I would prefer the mic jack on the outside.

Why don't we make the WEAPON only from CARBON FIBER like ARRI does??!! It can make the price go down!!

New Showreel on www.camlight.nl all shot on RED !

Best Robert

I still want more Highlight Latitude out of Digital at ISO 500, as I still do not see it equal to film at EI 500,
but all other areas with Dragon are beyond excellent.

I basically want 10 stops at least of Highlight Latitude without using HDRx when shooting at 500 ISO.

:)

Agreed , can never have too much highlight latitude

I'm not sure this is the appropriate thread but, i had a dream last night, the Weapon was announced at 500.000 $, half of a million, the atmosphere was dark and scary then i woke up. Probably a classical Pre-NAB symptom..

Maybe you were dreaming in another currency... like Venezuelan Bolivars?

That panel in the front where the coin is attached looks like it has one screw keeping it on (for easy access maybe?).

I wonder what's back there (besides two tiny mics) now that it's no longer the air intake.

...lots of room for something new. ;)

Admittedly, I'm a bit behind on this thread and some of the others. Exciting new stuff from what we've seen so far. I'm wondering, has it already been mentioned how the cooling will be handled and is there any chance of a self-regulating black shade calibration? To me, this will be one of the major breakthroughs for RED. This is a hot topic on set, and if the need for black shading was eliminated would be one less thing to draw comparisons to other cameras.

Thanks!

(snip) I've just rewatched some movies shot on Film: "Watchmen", "Benjamin Button" and "Out of the furnace" and Damn!!! We are crazily far from Film, truly.. I know it has ben discussed hundreds times here but for "True Cinema", film stays the obvious way to go..

IIRC a good bit of "Benjamin Button" was shot on Fincher's personal Thompson VIPER digital cinema camera and intercut with Kodak Vision3 negative.

IMO, some colors read better on film than any digital format I've seen - but other than that, I see it as an aesthetic decision, not a technical better/worse contest. Most people would consider the Alexa, Dragon or F65 a big step up from the VIPER - and with proper DI work it cut seamlessly with one of the best film stocks ever made. Just sayin'

Cheers - #19

How about some new teaser shots, Jarred? ;)

Jarred would have to give away more intel to tease/excite us with anything before NAB. The whole body can already be put together basically from all the photos anyways. ;-)

Forget the photos - we have a 360˚ video...

Whoa! In the video that Jarred posted it says "6K" on the upper right front. This model actually says WEAPON. And the supposed front Mic ports are round in this photo and in the video the are square-ish. Looks like might be differences in Metal vs Carbon housing models, perhaps?

Have to say and I really hope Im wrong, but with that lemo adapter there on the pic I might be right? RED sometimes makes really stupid designs for us "cine" people and if the case (as it looks like) is that there's a "screw in" LCD connection on the top of the body and you need that Lemo adapter to have it "off set" on, for example, a Noga. Then IMO it's a big screw up. Its great if there's two connections for EVF and LCD, but not in that way.

Really hope I'm seeing this wrong.

I don't mind having to use an adaptor for LEMO. I just hope we can mount that top adaptor 180 deg in the other direction so there's no cables sticking out of the front of the camera.

EDIT: I'd like to see a version of the LEMO ADAPTOR that has a cable coming out of it with the female LEMO port at the end. That way, the user could just place the port wherever it's most convenient.

IF this is a picture of the real thing, it has a MODULE attached that we have not seen before. It's definitely not the same as the one in the other pics or in the video.

Which one?

Edit: Ah, looks like the side outputs module is in fact not the legacy one that was shown previously. Seems that there are double sdi outputs on the lower part of the module.
