CREDENCE SHOOT • UPSTATE NY

CREDENCE SHOOT • UPSTATE NY

So posting some pictures from the last shoot before brain surgery. Pretty happy with how everything is turning out and the crew is great. The rig is holding up like a boss. Here are some screenshots from the short film from Ali Glatt's 'Credence'.

Best of luck Paul. Hope everything goes well with the surgery!

ZEISS CP2 v. RED PRO PRIMES aka Monster Glass.

ZEISS CP2 v. RED PRO PRIMES aka Monster Glass.

Firstly thanks for the overwhelming amount of wishes to get better. A little surprised but why should I be, I am here every day. Spend at least a few hours checking in if I am not working. Love it here and so, again, I am astounded by the kindness this amazing community has shown me. If I ever sounded brash, harsh, or like a douche, then my apologies to you. I try to live life without being any of that but I'm not perfect and always man up when I am wrong and take whatever punishment is deemed fair.

I wanted to talk about the RED PRO PRIMES. I can't stress enough how fantastic they are. I checked out the Zeiss CP.2 PL lenses for fun (I was picking up Double A batteries from Abel), and I wanted to check the quality. The build is nice but not anywhere as sturdy as the RPP. Clarity and color representation don't pass my sniff test, like at all. The only thing that interest me in the slightest is the lesser weight but I could care less as I am on a Fischer of Tripod most of the time -- but, the new Super-Speed CP2's are looking pretty good for the price and they are 1.5... Still, I can't justify this for an inferior lens. RED for the Pricepoint, and "PMF" (pardon my french) BLeep the price-point and give me the best optics.

Master-Primes are down the line for this apprentice DP, Ultra Primes are light and of interest but really, all of my spare change is going RED again. I am going to ask my awesome REP Whitney to place all of my orders under one banner for the fall Semester. 2 X PRO IO, 2 X 9" LCD, 1 X EPIC X BODY. This is assuming my body of work garners me at least the same loan from NYU as last year. All of the hard work I did seems be appreciated, but, the political landscape at NYU can be tricky. My attendance (except for last semester) was flawless and grades to match. Yet I still may not be eligible for a scholarship (though in my opinion it should be based on merits. Sean Combs' son got a scholarship and they ain't hurting for money. I gave all of myself to my craft, didn't charge any NYU students a dime until this my last year. But I digress...

Those RED PRO PRIMES are so amazing, no breathing, the CP2's from Zeiss breathe a lot, and it's a prime. (shaking head). Now Justin don't get mad, it's a great set of glass but you have to choose your spots.

I thought about a Zoom lens, like the Angie used, but, I hate Zooming, with a passion, unless there is a reason like in the original French Connection.

Zeiss' glass coming out is more expensive than RED's and though nice, they are in the NHL when they should be in the OHL. Maybe the new Super-Speeds will address this but I doubt it.

Best, Paul Ellington

I've never been sold on those CP.2s. There are better solutions for the price with adapting still lenses to your Epic for sure. MPs on the other hand are very nice, however, that's a big price leap.

Red Pro Primes have been a steal of a deal on the market. Not the most compact, but likely the most bang for your buck in PL land.

Totally agree, and you know what? The weight doesn't bother me unless I travel and they wanna charge me overweight... With the new case RED sells it comes in just under weight - just.

Just wanted to say thanks to the entire RED team Graeme included. I couldn't do this without you. I finally fell sleep on Saturday and didn't wake up til Monday. Pep talk from Graeme really helped, as the encouraging words from Jarred and the generous offer from Jim -- I just wouldn't know how to ask for a favor from such a brilliant mind. In any event thank you all for everything. Heart is with you in everything I do.

Best Paul.

We crossed paths during Reducation NYC, but never got a chance to chat, I was in a different group. Hope you have a quick and speedy recovery, so you can get right back to shooting and telling stories again.

I hope so ... so, and if not... the other side has lots of questions to answer. Next time we shall meet!

To anyone buying a new RED those battle tested units are a steal. I myself want one of those 18-85mm so bad. Stay away from other well known makers of inexpensive glass they will only disappoint.
