  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Panasonic GH5 gets a kick in the pants, firmware update coming. And YI 4k+ 4kp60.

Um... Red shooter Luke Neuman shot this and I thought it was fantastic. Be careful of broad brushing the skills of other artists out there with your own opinion.

EDIT: I see Luke has come to his own defense.

Honest truth. The day I saw this footage was the day I put my Red up for sale. Luke still shoots Red and his own opinion is that keeping his Red is necessary. For me, the GH5 is all I need... for now :)

Nice opener frame.Love the Rubbish Bin.. Fairly safe boring highlights. Her face was clipping in Sun. FANTASTIC

THank You, did not mean it really. I am 50, worked for Disney and others before.... but Weddings Pay Better. Most of Your footage was really nice.
Looking Back, I am sorry about all that. I should know better at my age.

Real reason i am looking at this GH5 is , I wan to shoot with SLR MAGIC CInema Primes 35,50,70 for MFT 2x. Any advice??

lets get back on topic lol, Luke I didnt see the footage but you seem like an ok guy with things to offer of substance on here, I would just ignore the BS

I do have a question, I shoot a gh4 into pix e5hs right now, usually 422hq or 422 10 bit, I was wondering if you were able to compare the 10 bit right out of camera vs an external recorder.

and since we are posting wedding films here's one from Saturday lol

No need to apologize...I think everyone says stuff they regret online. You aren't the first :)

I actually have a set of those coming and Panasonic is hoping for a little test video if we can find the time. The 70mm is a little soft for my liking, the 50 is probably the best overall...but I like wide anamorphics so the 35mm is probably my favorite. A little soft but for the focal length, I think it's a pretty good anamorphic lens.

Combined with "6K" on GH5...should be a pretty great combo!

I don't have an external recorder so I wasn't able to test it...not even sure if it would work yet due to it being a pre production unit etc.

I was wondering vs gh4, is there downloadable files anywhere? trying to decide if we are gonna stick with the gh4's and externals or go gh5

Excellent video Steve! Loved the exterior shots in the snow.

Hey Ty! I was gonna email you actually, you can really see the difference in the gh4 vs the red in that particular trailer, we did one the next day also, that trailer is going to be 95% RED, it is the screen shots I have been posting with the dark hair girl by the indoor pool, the footage is outragous! Love this camera!

I saw the stills you posted! What an incredible location. The greatest advantages to me are the skin tones and dynamic range / how clean darker shots are able to look!

You want a list of 100 people that have given me advice on here? Seriously? I simple look through my post history could confirm it.

Perhaps it is more that people don't want to give YOU advice ;)

Maybe it is your nssty attitude. I see many many people left in the lurch. I give up reminding people they should help them because they know the answers instantly in seconds, rather than refer them to hours of frankly under useful search here (The seatch functiom became not as good during a software upgrade years back. I basically use google in preference to the search engine most of the time). But then again, I've been sensing attitude at the start. Take it somewhere else Ben.

Now, I asked you a list of names long enough to prove your point, not a handful, out of tens of thousands of people I can mame a handful. You are conning yourself Ben. In a comfortable but darkened room, the firefly maybe the most generous thing Ben. Look at the threads and see the part answers and other wrong answers given because they just don't care sbout answes/truth/people that much. That is the real world, beacons of darkness. How few people that do even that much. and how few of the genuine ones that are there with full, deep, generouse answers. It is not cave man club, and the shorter the average answer, or the more mistaken, shows a problem. If one cannot read, they should try to read, not try to tank the process with short or careless sentence answers.. Who is merely trying to voice am opinion, and who is trying to get down closer to the facts of your question. Sure, sometimes you have to debate to establish the truth of the matter, but most people just want to have an opinion and debate their prejudice. We are not the 90% generation, we are the 10% and under generation (youth might even consider itself as the 100% generation, but that is youth). People might be horrified just his generouse real generous people out there are, because it is so alien to their meanly little concepts of it.

Now, I don't need to spend hours a day writing replies, where every hour of my life I can do something is s precious quantity for other things that hopefully can help a lot more people. I need joiners not fighters. People that will say, 'hey yes, in reality they could have done s bit more and ended up with a much netter situation' rather thsn waste time arguing against it.

1000% this.

There have been plenty of TV drmas and movies released over the years shot on far less powerful tools than the GH5. There's no excuse about technology in terms of people being able to do great work on tiny budgets. Exciting times we live in!

You forget, I've been espousing those ideas for decades myself. So unless you are willing to go and buy a svhs camera and shoot a feature, do you have a point. If doing high quality or more artistic work even the 10 bit 4:2:2 will hold you back let alone 8 bit 4kp60. Unless you can set your look in camera you have less flexibilities in post. Sure, great for low end work and new filmmakers But it is 100% about what you want to do in the future, and the equipment and other productions on 5 years time out of a maybe 10+ years camera life. So, a bit more flexibility on the camera makers behalf, is not outlandish. Was just thinking of svhs shoulder cam for some production idea recently. Been thinking to research and start a thread on microbudget film making information, and collaborative groups. Anybody in the industry 'knows' they are perfectly right from experience, and it couldn't be done any other way, but that is a myth they tell themselves. So in the case of microbudget film making, for instance, it does happen. Asking professionals about things can be counterproductive, as they see what they do rather than what can be done.

Why restrict people and give them a hard time rather than ask manufacturers to give more for the money, when there is a lot more that could have been done.

Thank you guys for coming here and posting, that is the best conversation I have seen on here for a long time.

In the years I've been here you have told the forum about a million ideas that you came up with first. And yet I don't hear your name in connection with any of these products once they have gone to production. It's all very well complaining about stuff in theory without going out there and getting your hands dirty and making this stuff happen.

What people find odd is that you are picking on a super cheap consumer level camera with the most advanced features ever seen in something at that price point and using it as the example of something that should have been a lot more when it has blown its competition out of the water in terms of features and image quality. Even though you have never touched one.

By the way I am absolutely on the lookout for some old VHS and tube video cameras for a feature and see the limitations of those formats as an road to creativity :)

Frankly, this is bollocks. You have zero idea of the strength and depth of relationships I have formed from Reduser. I've both given and received work here. Bought and sold many thousands of pounds worth of equipment and given advice when I can and received advice that completely changed the way I move my career. It's like a comfy home and if you don't like it you know where the door is.
