  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD OMOD Modules for RED WEAPON

I would love to see a bundle with an Omod, an Rtmotion handset, and an Rtmotion motor and cable.

maybe call it the "Starter Pack"

A deluxe starter pack could have OMOD, OMOD video tx, Paralinx or Teradek Rx, handset, motor, cable, and a latitude MdR for use on non-WPN cameras.

Bundles should be up by the end of next week.

I would love to see for my documentary work an OMOD POE XLR with the ambient TC / Gen.
Is there any solution?
Then I would add the TX module.

Pat

Hey Mark, these all look great. Any plans to build a more basic module with multiple, separately assignable, SDI outputs? I'd love to be able to send separate looks out to a village monitor, DP/operator monitor and an AC monitor. Don't need a lot of the other bells and whistles.

Great question.

Hey Mark, I hope you are doing great. I bet you're not getting a lot of sleep at the moment.

It would be awesome to have you or one of your team and the RT motion folks do a video, or at NAB do a presentation or have some time in the RED booth or whatever so we can puzzle through the options. I'm fine waiting a bit and using my existing bundled and third party solution until mid April if necessary. There are a lot of great options here, and it's easy to miss something. As an example I didn't know until tonight that Weapon/Abox can't do phantom power like they did on Epic. It's those little gotchas that I'm looking to avoid.

Congrats on all the great work.

Steve

Yes. Not much sleep. Yes. Videos later this month. Yes. Presence at several booths at NAB. And for the West Coast folks - we are planning a little "meet the OMOD" event in LA ahead of NAB - not locked in, but looks like it will be Saturday, April 2nd.

I think what you and Nick would want would be the OMOD Command module, which foregoes wireless lens control and advanced audio in, but does offer separately remote controllable SDI outputs.

Now, I may be wrong but I think this module has quite a few more tricks up its sleeve that we Don't know about yet with proxy output or something - just guessing by the name ;)

Is there no version with 4k output?

The HDSDI outputs are just 1.5gbs? 10bit 1080P 422 max?

How can the listed HDR/2084 monitoring work?

Is the second EVF/LCD output on the Weapon brain disabled when using an Omod?

Currently we have the same access to video output as RED's current modules for DSMC2. 1080p.

How can the listed HDR/2084 monitoring work?

It is a combination of the Color Space: BT.2020 & Gamma: Log3G12 and a high precision 3D LUT

Previously answered - and yeah - I need to get the FAQ published ASAP (maybe this Sunday) -

You can choose to ignore the HDMI monitor path from the DSMC2 brain, which gives your both EVF/LCD outputs, and just work with three independent paths with the same gamma applying CDLs / 1D or 3D LUTS to them individually as desired - it is NOT just a DA as other solutions - these are three independent processed outputs - or - you can also take the HDMI from the brain (Path B) and it becomes another 10-bit SDI signal with re-embedded timecode. Now you can route Path A and Path B however you want between the three SDI outputs - but you do loose the EVF/LCD connector on the side of the DSMC brain when in that mode. We do have a clever solution that resolves this whole "loosing the EVF/LCD output on the side of the camera" when wanting to access HDMI monitor path - but that solution is not ready yet.

You can also output 1080 60i for broadcast applications.

OK, but how could you monitor that with just 1080p SDI output?

Unless there has been a change the BVM-X300 needs UHD/4k quad-link SDI to enable HDR gamma mode.

Any consumer HDR monitor needs UHD over hdmi 2.0 with the HDR flags enabled to activate HDR mode.

The OMOD 4k Pro is canceled or just postponed?

Several SDI-IN HDR on set monitoring solutions for VERY low cost at NAB this year. Nobody monitors on set with a consumer display.

I never announced any 4K OMOD. But, if it ever becomes possible ... I will certainly do it.

HDR is not tied to resolution. The X300 has a user menu option to select ST2084 as the transfer function. Same for the Dolby Pulsar.

Again, not true at all. Even Sony's consumer displays have a user HDR on/off option. I have tested with both 1080p and 2160p HDR content. I know one studio planning to release HDR as 1080p instead of scaling it up and lying to customers.

I have been using a QuantumData 780 generator signaling the CEA 861.3 metadata over HDMI into the Samsung and LGs w/o any problem. They all correctly go into HDR mode at 1080p. And FYI, this was with HDMI 1.4 transmitter. It is easy enough to create a generic InfoFrame over HDMI. Dolby Vision does not even use the InfoFrame.

They certainly do monitor HDR on consumer monitors on location.
Not everyone wants to cough up the $ for an X300 which has blue channel in steady decline.
A trashed $3k 55" LG oled is no big deal, burn in on the X300 would be really costly.
HDR for episodic streaming is much more of a viable market than HDR for features, budgets are smaller.

I was referring to the "Omod 4k Pro" in the first post of this thread which I thought I just missed at NAB but I guess just wasn't there.

First up is OFFHOLLYWOOD's OMOD MINI, OMOD LT, and OMOD 4K PRO come see Mark and working prototypes on Weapon in our booth tomorrow.

The last time I tried regular hdsdi with the X300 it did not allow selecting any of the slog3/2084 HDR gamma modes in the EOTF menu, I see the updated manual indicates it is a selectable option for 2k sources. Have you tried it?

Ok the X930 has a "HDR picture mode" but that just seemed like a re-wording of Vibrant mode - it seemed to be a "HDR look" for SDR source rather than for HDR source, and as far as I could tell they were 8bit panels, all 4k 10bit 422/444 inputs via hdmi had banding, so didnt see it as good option for HDR content. We're only using the Samsung and LG displays, and they do not have a HDR mode you can select, although I guess technically you can force them using a box of questionable legality.

It worked at HPA a couple of weeks ago.

UHD Blu-ray allows UHD and 1080p HDR. Both need to be 2020, which I found to be odd, but no issues with 1080p HDR.

HD Fury 4k Integral is one way to force a consumer display into HDR mode. I assume this is what you mean by questionable legality. Its a really useful device to debug HDR. Studios are using them too, which is the ironic part.
