  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Paul, How long has the SSD module series been out? A year or more? And speaking of more... Moore's law. So, I stick by my prediction.

32GB?

I don't think I fully understand why there'd be a 32, wouldn't it only record roughly 15 minutes? What's the benefit of this? Other than it probably being half the price of the 64?

I'm going to guess the Turbo 512 is going to be a 50% per gig premium over the standard 256, so $9600. I'm really hoping the 32GB cards are $350 (or less ;) ).

I'm getting one just to store a copy of the current firmware in case of emergency.

SSDs have been out for like a year at the same price, so I'm really hoping our friend Moore comes along and we see a price shift. I've been waiting on purchasing any more until that happens.

I realize this isn't a democracy :-), but I'd love to see something more like...
512 - $4000
256 - $2000
128 - $1000
64 - $500

I doubt those prices will happen, but I'm sure if they did they'd see a huge spike in demand. I'd buy a many more cards at those prices instead of copying cards as often as I am.

With the data rate doubled for 512 cards, can we shoot high framerates like 96 fps with less compression?

From what I know about data throughput issues, yes, absolutely. At a CPU level it's actually harder for a cam to compress more in real time than less, so the CPU side would be even less problematic. Jarred stated specifically this would allow better comp. rates at high FPS.

A little bump on asking for a better understanding of what Jarred meant by "priced to match"?

It's pretty clear, isn't it? The turbo 512 will be a $/GB premium over the regular 256/128/64 which will be a $/GB premium over the 32GB budget card.

Thanks Andrew - it was not that clear. Americans have turns of phrase which do not translate clearly to other cultures. Here "priced to match" would usually mean same price as existing products, which in this case did not make sense.

In this case - "priced to match" indicates being priced in accordance with the change in features mentioned/markets targeted.

Oh, ha Mr. Ruffo! Quite thoughtless of me to forget the international audience. My apologies :) Yes. "priced to match" in this context means "priced to reflect the performance difference from the original cards."

I don't see the 512 GB in the shop. Is it supposed to be there now or is it coming down the pike?

You are thinking a little too Ferrari on your 512GB estimate, but pretty close on your 32GB guess :)

are you also planning on releasing other sizes (as in 64s 128s or 256s) for the red ferraris and the grey vw beetles?

just found your Questions thread :)

Hard to make any guesses in the media game.. things change so fast. lets see how the 32GB cards do :)

With the same factor as for the 256GB cards, the 512 would be $ 6,400. So anything from 5000 to 7000 might be a realistic guess.

As that factor is not including a Turbo premium, this might be off quite a bit, but it is also not including that the $ per GB ratio is sinking towards the bigger cards.
