  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8

Well, used the lens less than 5 times and the mount part of the camera is now loose unfortunately. I'll be sending it in for repair but will report on how their customer service and this process goes... Fortunately it has that warranty...
 
I just got one and have been really impressed on the scarlet. Ill bust out my R1 tomorrow and try it with my Birger and let you know.

Chris,

I just tested it with my R1 w/ Birger and Impero handset. It seems to work 100%. It takes longer than any other lens to calibrate but racks super smooth when its finally done.

How is this lens doing to date?

Any new issues I should be concerened about?

Wanting to use it with my Scarlet.

Will it replace my Rokinon Cine lens set?

it's great...really great...and yes...it even manages to raise some doubt on the rokinon price/value.....it still is not a cine lens....but focus is very smooth.....i honestly did not think i would like it that much.....really excited about all the rumors of other fast zooms....

the 35 (that is out already) is flat out amazing.....and really so is the 18-35....a fast 24, 50 and 85 are supposedly coming as is a f2 24-70....none are cine but if they are made as well as the last lenses and as good and as inexpensive (compared to everything else canon, nikon,..)....but who knows....
the 18-35 is in a way a no brainer for RED because it covers even 6K HD although it officially is not a FF lens....

just picked up a copy. Will post some screen grabs at 5k and 4k from the epic on friday.
 
I ordered one yesterday, I will try to post pictures here soon, especially compared with my Contax set.
 
all shot on epic in 5k hd. there are two at 18mm.

Is that bunny a toddler in a costume or a doll/mannequin?

I gotta get this lens as soon as RED map it in a firmware. Did Nan/GL confirm it measures T1.8 (not just f1.8) across the zoom or was that solely for his conversion? And has it been confirmed that it's par focal?

Worked flawlessly with the epic as far as lens control goes on newest release build. and it was a mannequin. and the bunny suit shot was 18mm. so was the shot of the kid in the bathroom with the gun (maybe 21ish)
 
The lens locks up with the latest beta build for me. The previous beta build worked fine when going past 1.8
 
oh yea, there is an option for f1.7 that if you go to itll lock up. i just stayed away
