Hi, dear all,

I just got my Master Prime, and it is my first cine lens. I wonder whether we should put a UV filter, like still photography, in the front as a protective lens or not. If so, what do you usually use, a screw-in filter for each lens or a mattebox with a square filter?

Thanks in advance.

But if you do, use the best, otherwise its like wasting your top $ quality glass. I use Hoya clear prodigital1 and it is good, much better than cheap uv filters which will add odd flares and reduce resolution and contrast.

Thanks a lot for your reply, Ariel.
I agree with you. I think I will use Schneider filters if I really need to use.
Thanks.

A little off topic but, I've heard that with a digital camera you can damage your sensor by pointing it in to the sun without a UV filter. Is this actually true?

I don't think you'd be able to rent Master Primes with no insurance...

Hey Sam,

I've pointed a whole manner of digital cameras from the PD150 back when to the Epic-M into the sun. No damage. You may be thinking of lasers. Id be very cautious whilst shooting in setups/night clubs/ performances that utilise high power laser displays...

That's what I thought, thanks.
