Awesome. Any hint as to how much that particular set up weighs? And any other basics like battery and record times? Even if you can't share the details, Jim, just seeing another picture set up is too cool. Thanks man.
Peace,

-Harry

Jim,
You might want to make the DSMC picture in a new thread, I'm not sure many people would think to look in a thread about lenses for more pictures of the DSMC system.

Unless that is the idea! :innocent:

Awesome work by the way. I await more pictures with bated breath!

I think what they are worth all depends on the optical and mechanical quality. I am optimistic that they will be terrific at a reasonable price.

Great job once again Jim! (and the gang).

Almost all the best (or PRO) still and cine lenses are hand made with

a rigorous control and measuring system involved in the production.

And also they are never cheap.

Look at Leica (Germany), Cooke (UK), Angenieux (France), Zeiss (Germany) cine lenses, Canon or Fuji ENG lenses (Japan).

Also Panavision (USA-California) lenses are all hand made and even you cannot buy them.

Production and labour costs are pretty much high in those countries.

So I don't see that RED lenses should be cheaper.

That may very well be the case... but our 1st five is as posted. Pretty easy stuff to understand.

It won't be too long when you have 12 RED primes to choose from... and there will still be people that complain. :-)

Jim
I understand everyone has their feelings about their preferred lens sets, but seems like it's easy to lose context here. 5 lenses for $20K, and from all accounts these are high quality lenses that will surpass many of the lenses on the market with perhaps the exception of Master Primes. And they are not too far away from shipping the first ones. New focal lengths in development. I agree the one thing that would make this set really nice is an 18 (I'd actually prefer to have a 14 or 16) but I also understand that up until now, lens prices have been going through the roof and we need some leveling off. I commend Red for figuring out a way to bring quality lenses to the market at that price point.

This was exactly what I was thinking about. Just look at the shooting possibilities here... And THE SUPPORT GEAR! You can get Prosumer support gear (affordable steadicams, jibs, tripods, dollies) to get "those" money shots...

This is the true revolution!

Sugestion/question- Is there an on camera LCD, like a DSLR, or do we have to use the external LCD? Its not much of a problem, but I would sugest the development of an even smaller one, a 3" "Stealth" one for even less attention grabbing... Of course this wouldn't be the ideal for color checking and/or focusing, but would be nice enough for framing...

EDIT- Of course, (and I completely forgot about it!) we could go with the EVF option, but, then again, it wouldn't allow proper framing for those dinamic "Slumdog style" shots. Heck, forget it. This configuration is more than enough!

You guys are geniuses. Now, please give us an estimate for the S35. Really, you're killing me!

EDIT- So those sunglasses really are Oakley's :) . You guys really don't miss any detail, do you ;)

Lord thunderin' Jeeziz, now that is a very clever looking modular getup, James.
Excuse me while I turn my pacemaker down a couple of clicks.

Jim, LOVE it!

Far out idea for you...Oakley/Red partnership for a pair of glasses that have a built in viewfinder?

Because that setup would be AWESOME for stealth shots if there wasnt that honking LCD or a big EVF attached

Even just Oakley's with a sweet RED buzz saw on the frames and cherry lenses would be great...

HOLY #@%!@!!!

Fresh pants!

It looks so McLaren F1 in silver. Can we get one showing that the LCD actually has an image going on? Just so silence the Sony trollers before thy even try that.

:matrix:

These look great - very exciting. I've been shooting with my canon DSLR a bunch lately and this post has me thinking about the throw of the focus rings and how they apply to more still/hand held work. Do you think the longer throw of the cinema lenses will make quick maneuvering difficult? Don't get me wrong. I'm thrilled with what's being done here. Just curious as to how it feels as a handheld setup.

If you look closely you can see something on the display that is on top the handle. I'm sure the LCD works too  .
