  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

New project...

(...)VR... which I think is as obsolete as 3D. No one has just acknowledged this yet.

6. It is not AR... which I think is doomed because no one wants to wear a headset. Think about it.

You have my blind trust, but I would love to hear more about why you think VR/AR are obsolete/doomed. I have a hard time agreeing with that.

If it's a smartphone, i'm going to be so bummed.

Well, I can think of a smartphone that would have no business whatsoever being labeled as such. If it is a phone, I am sure it will be as mind-blowing as any other tech announcement we've seen in the last five years... I mean, this is Jim and Jarred we are talking about. They are unable to think small, or hold back.

Calling it: Jim and Jarred are bringing back Deadwood.

Something for everybody....

Is it a new RED cellphone that requires no data plan? Something you can buy off the shelf for a flat fee, and it just connects you to the network without a monthly bill? A Verizon/TMobile/AT&T/Sprint killer.

something for everyone. space, time, travel, electronics.

it's a jetpack. Finally!

God I miss Calvin and Hobbes... I wonder what he would be like when he grew up?

Probably invented his own flame thrower since he couldn't buy one and his parents never gave him one for Christmas. '-)

But back on topic, Jim didn't rule out imaging of some sort so maybe it has to do with projection or is codec related? One thing I'm sure it's not is this.

I've run out of sensible guesses so I'll just wait for the impending news.

Hope it comes soon as I am in the process of allocating funds to various things... gotta figure out which Peter to rob to pay James.

One more guess... something to do with holograms?

OK... just because you guys are trying so hard.

1. It is not world peace. I wish we could deliver.

2. It is not energy related. We will leave that up to Elon Musk.

3. It is not time travel. That is just not going to happen.

4. It is not saving wildlife. Although I am fully engaged in that cause.

5. It is not VR... which I think is as obsolete as 3D. No one has just acknowledged this yet.

Every once in awhile everything changes. That's what we have.

In 2006 I asked everyone to trust me. We delivered 4k on a compact flash card for $17,500 when Sony was selling 1080P for $225K to an SR deck.

Once again, I am asking you to trust me.

Jim

1. That would be an impossible task with Humans.

2. He is surely doing an incredible job at it too.

3. Never believed in that either.

4. This is a very touchy subject for me, even so I did have plenty of killing done, but was always only to eat, as we had nothing else. I admire your support.

5. & 6. No kidding, I fill exactly the same. Lost petty of time and money on 3D, not going ton happen again.

Well, you know you have my trust and support Jim... And back in LA too, so if you need anything at all that I can be of assistance you have me!

If RED where to combine the tech with raw hires recording and a social network that you could contribute and earn money from "real" likes would make fb and studios obsolete.

Well, i doubt this is camera-related, but if.... Hasselblad announcement on 22nd. Maybe they a) announce a new owner and b) a total groundbreaking new MF/mirrorless-killer-type of camera? ;)

P.S. No need to ask for my trust Jim, thats a given. Can't wait to learn more about your new project(s).

I love Google Patent search:

Ok, How about a head mounted device (in the form of eyeglasses or a hat or a helmet) that can can function as an intermediary for your cellphone or computer. Voice recognition, audio and digital displays, able to initiate actions in other device; Kind of like an apple watch but in eyeglass form but more features. Or even function as an independent communication device (in a helmet it could create an ad hoc audio and digital communications between motorcycle riders, or even a football team)

Makes me wonder if it is not something unsearchable, like a codec or other coded something that is patented after the fact.

Yeah, but as Jim said, tell all your friends; many of mine would get no benefit from a codec. A device like this, if implemented correctly would be useful to a wide range of people. it includes voice recognition, audio , biometric identification, optional visual display, etc...

37.000 electric dune buggy is hardly for everyone ;)

But it will be street legal... the whole family can go anywhere. '-)

Plus, you can use the battery as your power source for your home in a pinch.

You know what? I think it has to do with putting massive bandwidth in the hands of everyone. A hand held device like a phone, but much more....

I gonna side with Elsie on the codec, that it's a higher fidelity delivery system built around Redcode. Which possibly will drive a new consumer space and will likely be disruptive to at least 2 market categories.

Much bigger than a codec and much smaller than curing cancer.

Jim

Jim

Well, that narrows it down... to only a few million things. '-)

The first time I remember you posting "trust me" on REDuser was during the R-1 days when you said something like buy this camera and you will be glad you did... trust me on this. I bought a second R-1 and sure enough, there were upgrade paths where we actually got full price for our cameras at trade in.

That trust was on blind faith. Trust in whatever you are doing now is based on past performance.

Also, your saying "trust me" again suggests this is something we un-initiated may have trouble wrapping our heads around, so for some of us it may mean climbing out on a limb with you.

Boots and saddles... let's ride!
