  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW PREMIERE CC AND AE AVAILABLE NOW

Havent even grabbed CC yet...so take that into account...

But certain formats export slower then others...cineform being one of the worst....

Try a short test dpx export, and compare the export times to the prores.

It seems PPro can really hit a roadblock with certain codecs and export speeds

Can you export to different mxf formats. , or are ou still required to buy codec pack seperately
This was something that really surprised me and made me buy other software to be able to export , which was not mentioned when i got cc or must have overlooked ( mmmm don t think so)
We export tons of formats. What are you missing?

Cheers

Hey David,

Since long I have a little wish, would it be possible to have the R, G, B values in Ae in the "R3D Source Settings" window? Exactly from where my mouse/pen is on the image?

Thanks.

Haven't heard that request before. Will add it to the feature request list
Thanks

Having GREAT success with its new search and relink window, new format style or relinkiing is much improved.
Hahaha that wouldn't be a hard achievement.

I'm curious if we still need to do the whole RED file importer instal craziness or if that is now going to be automatically included?

Ive got to finish up a project this afternoon on (owned) CS6 as I'm scared I might screw up something if I install CC now. A friend got everything completely messed up on CC CS6 as soon as CC came out. The Cloud was angry or confused that he wasn't using CC yet....

Does anyone know of a way to copy over your preferences from premiere cs6? Mostly keyboard shortcuts and custom effects bins if possible.

I would never ever ever recommend installing something if you need to finish a project ;)

CC comes with Epic support built in. With the new CC model I don't expect we will post any more lab plugins.

4K master output via ProRes 4444/HQ as well. 4096x2160
Ahh - well that would be why - means Premiere is having to do a 4k debayer on every frame. I would hazard a guess that the reason FCPX may be faster is because it has generated ProRes proxies in the background that it is then using for export?

And in theory when updates happen to say the Red Importer it should be a simpler prospect for users to do that via the Creative Cloud Application Manager.

One thing I really liked during installation was the ability to bring over my presets from Photoshop CS6 to Photoshop CC. Nice touch.

No..I reference the HQ/Orig files on export. Depending on the length of the project, I'll sometimes have FCPX generate the proxies, but since it works natively with R3D, there's not really a need unless the sequence is effect heavy.

Dave,

I may have found a Prelude CC Issue, unless my settings are wrong. When I ingest R3D files, the file names are truncated, leaving off the clip numbers, so that every file from a mag has the same name. Do I have a setting wrong?

Is there something I'm missing with Red Source Settings window in Premiere? Is there no way to keep it open when moving from one clip to another like in RCX? Or like the effects control tab. So you don't have to right click and go to source settings each time...essentially opening and closing the window every time you make a change.

This is a common request that we are looking into. For now you need to use it like you described. We do support the RMD files from RedCineX though.

As Adobe After Effects has now CineWare (CINEMA 4D Lite) in it, I had to join, as I teach this stuff since nearly a decade.
When I say I like it, many people might say I'm biased, as I use Ae and C4D since 1996: Both great apps. :o)
I think this is an interesting start, and I hope the integration will go deeper over the time.

However, for CS6 customers it was a $19.99/month deal, and so I had no concerns for the first year.
My first action was to zip my CS6 Ae, just in case; But it went smoothly. No Problems here, all is fine.

For the Cloud itself, I hope they would get an option to download more than one file (content) at the time. Crossing my fingers.
Being critical the last few month about CC, I think I had a good start. I only wish they would allow for an installation on an external drive.
I see a lot of value in the C4D/AE combination - and as you seem like an expert in the use of the products ...

I'm coming from Fusion/Lightwave/3ds - and really hate rendering passes and compositing, as you lose a lot of the potential when rendering to 2D and then compositing that into a 3D workspace.

I would like to be able to bring in RealFlow meshes of transparent fluids, put an EXR sequence of a green screened actress in the center of the mesh, and have the fluid distort the actress just as in real life.

1. Does this sound possible in AE/CD4 - when using AE as the compositing program (there would be many other elements in a complex 3D set)?

2. In Fusion, dealing with a 1/4 sized proxy EXR sequence is trivial, and even with 4K sequences, I can get decent playback speed (12 fps while caching in a very complex scene with lots of other image sequences, then 23.976 after cached).

Is this possible in AE? Is there a simple way to tell AE to play with the proxy sequences and textures? Being able to quickly play a comp is really essential when judging camera moves, etc. - and I spend way more time playing a proxy from cache than I do for the final render.

3. Due to the nodal nature of Fusion, I'm able to build complex camera rigs and other tools. I know that neither AE or C4D uses nodes, but ... is this possible in AE?

4. I often bake motions from MotionBuilder in 3ds for use in Lightwave. Will the AE/CD4 combo allow playing an FBX mesh + mdd or pointCache?

5. Any idea if AE/C4D will be able to use the Octane renderer (Octane already works in C4D)? It would be great to get the ability to have real raytracing GI - but ... the main objection I hear on the Fusion forum is that it would take forever to render.

If AE/CD4 were able to use Octane, I'd probably jump onboard today and buy the full version of C4D.
