  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NEW PREMIERE CC AND AE AVAILABLE NOW

Apparently it doesn't update the CS6 apps (even if you were on CC CS6), but installs the new apps alongside the CS6 versions. I am starting a download now on my personal machine to see how stable it is.

I'm looking forward to hear user comments on how CC works and how much of an improvement it is vs CS6. As for it installing in a different place than Cs6 is probably due to the end user agreement. The previous CS6 you owned. This one you are loaning it for life. They can't take away something you already own so they have to "sell" ( er, loan) as something completely different. So CC1 will be always upgraded. Curious if they will use numbers to differentiate updates since it makes no sense anymore with the current business model. NOTICE: this post is not to start the debate all over again. Just stating the obvious. It was what I was expecting and adobe, I believe, had clarified that CS6 and CC would be able to co-exist.

Support for GTX Titan still needs to be added in the .ini file, despite much lower standard cards being in the approved list. Adobe's much vaunted use of multiple GX cards is opaque and non-configurable - either GPU acceleration is on or off, no details of which cards are being used.
Hey Paul,

You should find you can manually add unsupported cards without editing the .ini file in PPro CC. Just go to your Project Settings dialogue box. I don't have an unsupported card at the moment (though will probably have some Titans in the not too distant future) so the option isn't coming up for me. It got mentioned in one of the Adobe blogs here: http://blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2013/06/adobe-premiere-pro-cc-and-gpu-support.html

Also - the multi GPU features are only for exports - not for realtime playback on the timeline.

Anyone able to confirm if the hype regarding real time 4k playback is true on AMD or Nvidia cards? Or are Red Rockets still necessary for realtime?

Mostly still depends on your system and not your GPU. The bulk of the processing to decode and display R3D frames is still CPU-bound. GPUs help a lot for everything that happens after the frames are de-compressed and de-bayered.

I've only given it a quick looksee, but Premiere CC does seem snappier. I'll be putting it on a 2011 iMac later today and will see what happens... So far have it just on a Z820 workstation and I can't really quantify it -- it's a pretty hefty config with Rocket. Seems to run quite well there.

Am I missing something or do you still have to click four steps just to update the rmd metadata after a trip to rcxpro!!!!

How do you set up adobe any where?

Installing now, albeit very slowly.

First thoughts on Premiere

Much better audio plugin handling, choice of VST folders.

Lost my playback output to BlackMagic SDI, and therefore my external monitor. That's not good.

@Blackmagic_News: New Desktop Video 9.7.5 adds full support for Adobe Creative Cloud software with DeckLink, UltraStudio and Intensity products. Download now!

As Adobe After Effects has now CineWare (CINEMA 4D Lite) in it, I had to join, as I teach this stuff since nearly a decade.
When I say I like it, many people might say I'm biased, as I use Ae and C4D since 1996: Both great apps. :o)
I think this is an interesting start, and I hope the integration will go deeper over the time.

However, for CS6 customers it was a $19.99/month deal, and so I had no concerns for the first year.
My first action was to zip my CS6 Ae, just in case; But it went smoothly. No Problems here, all is fine.

For the Cloud itself, I hope they would get an option to download more than one file (content) at the time. Crossing my fingers.
Being critical the last few month about CC, I think I had a good start. I only wish they would allow for an installation on an external drive.

You can set the default installation location for apps in the preferences of the application manager :)

Thanks for the tip, Brad, very nice of you. I had, all in all, three "chats" with the Adobe support about that. I was told it is mandatory to have them on the start-drive.

Thank you very much. I certainly will check that out. (I have to work from a Laptop more often, and the SSD is always too small... ;o)

Adobe chat: "Suman: You have to install the product on the primary hard-drive."

EDIT: After an update of the installer I found it, great! I can't tell if the older installer had that option/edit

yep, I usually keep a backup of the txt file so that I don't have to run gpusniffer everytime it gets replaced.

I didn't know that. But Premiere CC seems to play R3D faster than CS6.

Pleased to be of some assistance :). I stumbled across it whilst just exploring - it's in the old application manager too for what it's worth, so very surprised to hear that the support reps didn't know this...

First impression- very snappy!

What settings are you exporting with Chris?

Even not checking "render at maximum depth" and "maximum render quality," still gastly render times. 23 seconds takes like 5 minutes to export. Working in 4K/5K timelines, scale to frame size, etc. Going to Pro Res.

The old Cloud installer had the same option to install on a non-system drive and folder path. That's what I've done all along.
