  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- RED ROCKET-X

RED ROCKET-X is a supercharged version of the RED ROCKET processing .R3D files from Scarlet, Epic MX and Epic Dragon cameras up to 5x faster than the current Rocket.

What are the dimensions of this card? Would be nice to know before ordering whether or not it fits into existing PC chassis.

Also, how was the performance increased 5X? Is this a new chip fabricated on 28nm process?

ill take 3

me too. Early birds are getting a lot of worms over at RED these days.

-$4495 if ordered at the time of any DRAGON purchase ( new or upgrade )

loved this price option

Any new features on this beast? Will it work on older Mac Pro towers? 16x slot or useable in the 4x?

Reading between the lines... DRAGON Camera probably will be available NOW as a new camera purchase (to early adopters first ?)... also as an upgrade to EPIC MX (M, X and monochrome I guess) and hopefully from Scarlet too. But kinda confirms no DRAGON "light" Scarlet camera to be expected at this time...

Also does the ROCKET X price reduction for early adopters is for the "RED ONE early adopters group" or just a launch price for any RED ROCKET X early buyer ? Kinda rhetorical question as I think most will probably be bought with the Dragon reduction...

So no OpenCL/CUDA/DirectCompute debayering coming then :(

I notice Jarred edited it from "Scarlet, Epic, and Dragon cameras" to. Probably realized us RU dorks would spend 1800 replies parsing that sentence to figure out if Dragon was now an entirely new camera or not. Good call.

Expect the RR card to phase out.

Nice!!!

Anyway, will you keep selling the Normal REdRocket for those who can't afford this amazing, necessary and wished for option? Will the old Red Rocket see a price reduction?

Ploy to inflate postcount!

I think that would be a shame. Why not keep a cheaper less powerful option for indies to be able to edit, work and render a bit faster than with a normal computer? As I'm aware, computers now are not able to playback 4K in full debayer real-time these days (and I'm obviously talking about user computers, not über-expensive machines). And lot of projects will still be shot in that way. All of us who still shot with RED ONEs, for example.

New RR are 5k. This one is almost 7k. Even less if you buy one early. So you get 5x the performance for the same price. Then there will be battle tested cards. Current RR break very easy, you want this 2nd gen card. Hopefully it's more reliable.

The RR is a dino, you can't get 5kFF Full Res playback, only half. Most powerful computers will only edit R3d in 1/2 res.

5x faster than the current rocket... RED Dragon 645 here we come? :)
