  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- RED ROCKET-X

The orginal red rocket was also a heavily overclocked board, with a short life span to begin with before being overclocked, that's probably not so much the case with the new rocket-x. The new rocket-x also has a protective cover, uses independent power, and doesn't dump hot exhaust back into the case. Now all its missing is an optional closed water block/loop system.

Bob - on the current RCX build that handles Dragon clips - when loading the original Rocket is disabled..... will have to see if that changes.

Hi Cid J Salcido Uyarra - do you have any updates? any news?

Are you using your card in an enclosure or loaded into a tower? If enclosure, which one? What kind of render times at what resolutions and compressions?

What EPIC serial number did you have? any others shipping yet? were you issued this special for your Lifetime shoot or were you in the regular queue?

I'd sure like to get more info and status updates on the Rocket-X.

Does anyone know if the Sonnet boxes are working with these?

With end of year tax season approaching, I'd like to pay for this, this year, if possible.

RR-X is shipping to those who have Dragons already or on the way. Dragons are in the wild so be patient its around the corner.

I had the honor to test out the RR-X on my set up for a day on a show. Didn't have much time to make diagnosis.

Red is working really hard to get it out as soon as possible.

The Sonnet Echo Express is not compatible due to power issues the enclosures need at least 75w I believe don't quote me on it. To power the RR-X if I remember is a standard 6-Pin power cord and it comes with a nifty cable with a Mini 6-Pin for Mac Pro MoBo. So Find a Thunderbolt enclosure with a 6 Pin Power Breakout to support the power thirsty card =)

I have'nt heard of an enclosure that can power the RR-X but I'm sure one will come out ...if not you can you always use a PSU lol

It's also a 12'' card so be sure to measure your case, all my other cards are around 10'' so add two more to it.

I've also heard that the old RR can't handle 6K, not really sure what all that entails. I'd have to see it with my own eyes.

RR-X is totally worth it and I'd recommend purchasing it with your Dragon upgrade.

Just a quick note. The Sonnet Echo Express enclosure has been updated to now include an AUX power port. So yes it's compatible with the new RR-X card.

Echo Express Pro — Now with More Power for Cards That Need It
Most PCIe cards get all the power they need through the slot they're installed in, but some cards need even more. These power-hungry cards get extra power by connecting to the computer's power supply. The Echo Express Pro now features an auxiliary power connector that provides up to 75W of power, and includes a cable (6-pin Micro-Fit Jr. to 6-pin Mini-Fit Jr.) to connect between the chassis and the power connector found on many cards with extra power requirements. If you have an Avid® Pro Tools|HDX PCIe card, Sonnet also has a specifically designed power cable to accommodate up to two HDX cards.

it would make the most sense Sonnet has always supported Red products.

if you do order a card enclosure I would call Sonnet directly and get the specifics and model number.
