  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- RED ROCKET-X

Will work like a charm in our DCINE Instadailies Lab™ heheheheh
Brilliant
Cheers

New Red Rocket Card

New Red Rocket Card

A new rocket card sounds great but how long will it last?

We've had 6, yes 6! break beyond repair in as many months. A lot of other people have also reported the same problem. The response from RED: 'Do you want to buy another one?' Not at that price if its not gonna last.

whoa

I'm supposing we don't have to decide on the RR-x until we pay for our Dragon update?

Also, Jarred, is there any indication that Premiere Pro will utilize this Rocket?

:( with graphic cards that can do realtime raytracing in 2k you would think a little bit of debayering is something they can easily handle.

It's a completely different kind of math. R3D files contain JPEG 2000 sequences (normally one, two for HDRx) which uses wavelet technology while the raytracing engine(s) on video cards are specifically designed to handle the math that creates polygons and determine light values that strike and bounce off of them. Do a little research on JPEG 2000s will give a little insight as to this. Wavelet technology has a byproduct of making lower resolution access to the images possible (this was a brilliant choice on Red's part).

To those asking about the interface, the contacts on the image shown travel the full length of the card which would indicate that it is a full 16 lane card. You can always plug a PCIe 2.0 or 3.0 card into a smaller (electrical, not mechanical) slot, but it will slow down performance. I'm guessing it is PCIe 2.0... Jarred?

Anyone wanna buy my rocket ? Haha. Once this hits I'll be selling mine for the cheaps. Can't wait to swing by the booth today. You guys had a lot going on there yesterday.

For mobile TB set ups the original should still have good value... Often when mobile the 5x potential will be bandwidth limited

yup.. 3 year RED ARMOR is $395.

That actually puts the rocket-x into an affordable paradigm. Based on how many people went through at least 2 rockets within 3 years at an expense of 8K total (5k for the original + 3k for the replacement).

this thing is pricey

if it lasts longer than the original RR 3000hrs + then it maybe worth it.

I just feel very little people are gonna have these from the get go.

Standard BOX kit for DIT on a union show is $500/day would you charge more with a new Rocket?

You'd need a 14 day shoot to pay it off.

There needs to be a non-union RR lol

For all the indi-Folks

Fantastic. Just what I have been waiting with.
Can it play full debayer from the Dragon sensor?
Best

Love it

Love it

The red circuit board is a give away....AMD Firepro.
The price is right for Pro cards....the AMD is $3995 so a little add on for (substantial) engineering to get it playing nice with RCX..it's all good.

So no OpenCL/CUDA/DirectCompute debayering coming then :(

We'll see about OpenCL and crossfire support when it ships I guess.

More importantly, what is the debayer quality like? The old card had some nasty sharpening artifacts which forced many users, who preferred quality, to use software based debayering. Does this card have more flexibility?
