  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB13- DSMC FAN 2.0 Upgrade Kit

Can vouch that fan upgrade kits are shipping. Have a tracking number, out on a shoot with an Epic and a R1MX so will miss it on the first delivery truck merry-go-round, but it will be waiting for me to pick up when I get back to home base Monday.

Feels like Christmas in June :emote_happyhappy:

Hello Mark!

Any pictures or heat tests?
Thanks
Pat

You guys are not supposed to be looking at the details , that was the deal remember :)

heh heh heh.

any way to get a rear module, like that one that we didn't see, with simple builtin charge capability like the travel charger - sort of like one of those nasty Sony, Panny, Canon camcorders?

For all intents and purposes.. erase that image of the Miezler out of your minds. Everything has changed.

This is exactly why I saved up and switched over from dslrs - RED works hard and takes the time to make things right.

Wow, Hopefully the meizler loose the stuff in front and underneath the camera body as those two where making it impossible to use for us. We need the whole camera above 19mm studio and we need the distance from the rods to stay intact. I think that goes for many others as well. So to make it right I wish Red will put the meizler stuff behind and above instead of underneath the camera body. Also avoid as far as possible things sticking out in the front, as the connectors and the new fan...

Yup. I want one of those.

The riser was required to hit "standard" 19mm height...just like it was before. thats why it was there. Unless of course you are using a Epic baseplate that already incorporates the riser, then you are doubling up :(

But regardless... I think you will be very happy with the new direction we headed. It is not just a slight tweak by changing lanes, but a complete U-turn, off the road into the ditch and back up the other side kinda change.

Looking forward to hearing/seeing more!

Question...
Extra Fan means RED VOLTS last less time ? Being a huge RED VOLT user (in the side grip) I really need to know. Please :)
Good question, but the extra fans on top and better fans on the front also mean they don't need to run as fast as the old ones and so consume less power. In the end, battery usage could stay at the same level.

Hey Mark, the Dragon suppose to be more energy efficient and combined with ever-improving battery technology I personally hope to see REDVOLTs that will run the average setup for 1 hr + in a not to distant future (2014?)...

lets hope :)

I'm fairly certain that redvolts contain four 2.5 amp-hour, 18650 size, battery cells. By the end of this year a 4 amp-hour (but slightly lower voltage) cell will be available which should yield around a 50% increase in capacity. There is also the fact that batteries lose more energy to heat when they are discharged more quickly so you could probably tack on a few percent to that. So maybe a 55% increase in run time is reasonable to expect.

The rest will have to be made up with software optimization.

If you're really crazy you could try opening up a dead redvolt and put some of these in.

I'm holding out for one of these

Awesome. Who do we talk to about getting our plates in for this mod, Jarred? Looks like my fan set is shipping this week.

Otherwise I don't want to bust out the dremel.
