  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

NAB 2014 - DRAGONcolor and REDgamma 4

Just got an error message... IIRC 0x0000001d, when I re-attached my Redmote after using it wirelessly. I saved the log but cannot remember where I'm supposed to send it. Anyone remember the email address?

forgot to mention... I rebooted and everything seems to be working flawlessly.

Had that same message reattaching a redmote too... I had upgraded one on camera, pulled it off, and put on the 'next' one to do... out of date firmware on the redmote, so I wrote it off as a one off.

Will see if I can reproduce it.

The way I did it was to have the camera fully booted, then dock the Redmote. Immediately a screen on the Redmote came up telling me I needed to upgrade the firmware. I confirmed and then it took about 25 minutes to do it on camera. All the while a status bar is displayed.
Nope, not happening. I bet Epic refuses to do anything else before I've clicked "AGREE" on the RED SOFTWARE LICENSING AGREEMENT which comes up on screen immediately upon powering up. Aaaand I can't click "AGREE" because my REDmote is not working.

Still no REDmote firmware v9.x on RED.com, it seems.

May be a conflict between Redlink support and Redmote?

RLF is, as you know, very low contrast. That means the change in colour space is hard to see, especially if you're not viewing the RLF through a viewing LUT. If you are, then the change is more obviously especially on the yellow/orange/red range of colours.

Highlight rolloff and skin tone are all improved on the sensor side. Because you're looking at Dragon to Dragon comparisons what you're seeing is more of the improvements in the raw development side of things. If you do Epic to Dragon you'll see vast improvements in skin tone and highlight roll-off, which are only helped by this new colour science update.

Graeme, any reason we should or should not use DRAGONColor with footage shot on the MX sensor? It certainly looks different than RedColor3, and I haven't decided if I like it better or not yet, but some in this thread certainly have expressed that they like it better.

DC works just fine on original RED One M, MX and Epic MX footage. There's no reason why you wouldn't shouldn't use DC, even though it's specifically tuned for Dragon. I still like RC3 on M and MX footage, but it's not like I'm going to come round your house and force you to use RC3 if you like DC better on your footage. My preference though is RG4 for everything.

We're aware of this SLA bug and are working on a solution.

Thanks Graeme. I asked 10% because I wasn't sure if there was something unclear to the eye that was "wrong" with using DC on MX footage, and 90% because I'm absolutely sure there will be some heated discussions with clients about whether or not to use DC or RC3, and it helps to have an answer straight from the guy that made the damn things.

Your latest build of RCX(30) is just amazing. On cuda mode, 6K HD is pre-loading super fast @ 1/2 reso. !!

Thanks for the update. I was impressed @ build 23 but this is a whole new beast.

When can we expect this in DaVinci Resolve?

love the new firmware, just two bugs that seems to be happening to My Scarlet, I don't know if they are happing to anyone else, first when turning my camera on with only using a REDVolt in the side handle it will show up as -1 before showing a correct time value or percentage value that is actually left. And secondly when trying to set the exposure assist to any setting (single shot, continuous in preview, or continuous in preview/record) my camera will automatically shut off, and when I turn it back on I get a improper shut down message.

mine says there's no openCL device available... on latest 2013 mbp retina w/ intel iris graphics

plays back alright at 1/4 res anyhow, and i'm getting better than realtime at 1/8, but i'd like to use my gpu - anybody know what i need to do?

There is a version of 2013 mbp retinas that only has an Iris (the entry level one). You do have the one with 750m, right?
