  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

More new color science...

fantastic news. I normally set my saturation to about 80 percent with redcolor. Excited to see the difference.

sounds good!

but question.. RedGamma2 sounds like the defult for you, and will be for most people including me.. who doesnt want that soft film like rolloff...

so where does that leave redcolor2?
just for people who want extra punch (pre post) in the colors?

Redcolor 2 is the one that draws my immediate attention. Always thought Redcolor was a little too dazzling. The other two additions sound good as well.

That's probably because you don't shoot electronic and trance music videos :yikes:

I want a "candy-pop-my-eyes-are-sore-from-all-those-colors" colorspace

That said, the improved roll on highlights is something I am very, very excited about.

Hi

These are 2 versions of the same frame, original m sensor. Is there a way to hold this window details in one cc, without luma key?

Personally I'd just a mask and layers, otherwise you're messing with the colors in the other zone in a way that will look weird, on way or the other. Isn't it fantastic to have a digital camera that can actually capture all that!? Try doing that on an F900...

Heh, heh, Yeah, I'm thinking now it was my LSD monitor (like one a recent poster had) causing the dazzle.:emote_hippie:

The best part of shooting RAW is the ability to open old files and have them look brand new again... and better.

Jim
Wish we had been strongly warned about this from the beginning. Since about the only thing that can totally ruin a shot it seems is being out of focus, I would have paid more attention to focus at the beginning. Anything in the works to refocus old footage?

It fits very smoothly into a cineon log workflow both for VFX and DI log grading.

Are there any plans for a "RedcolorFilm" color matrix as well? The gamma curve has never been as big an issue as the color matrix in terms of a translation to a film centric pipeline.

Of course, there is also the larger quesiton of whether a film centric pipeline is something that is really needed now and into the future. Personally, I'd really like to see a faster move towards ACES rather than continual introduction of new gamma curves and color matrices, particularly given that Jim has indicated planned support for it already. The quicker there's an agreed upon universal approach the quicker the inevitable confusion begins to end. I really do appreciate the effort to provide better images along with the newer hardware, but the staggered introduction of all this stuff has led to a situation where production may be looking at something different than post, and the VFX company may be doing file transcodes that are significantly different than the grading facility is getting from the same R3D files. Having already experienced the results of this on a television series, I'm not anxious to see it continue. The introductions really need to be simultaneous on camera, Red software, and the SDK so that all of us can at least technically be on the same page.

Billion Red Team!
I like filmic and may be most of the project I used RED ONE were TV commercial and Feature Film, so, this really help to show to those none sense client and directors... Hehe

MAN i wish i could understand what all of you are talking about!!! is there anyone around here that speaks the image language??? all this letters language is giving me a headache!!
im fluent in both!! STILLs and Video!!

Sounds cool. I remember someone suggested shooting Red and Vision3 side by side and creating a 'difference LUT' to transform the Red footage into something folks were more familiar with in terms of look.

I wonder if Graeme did something like this or if some other form of sampling was done to create the new color.

Once again we are given a chance to re grade our footage

Best way to know is to shoot with one, or download REDCINE-X and some test R3D footage files, then grade them on you own.

Great business idea

Great business idea

As suggested to a Varicam owner complaining about Red's "beta" status.

Step 1. He pays me the cost of the latest Sony/Panasonic/Arri camera.

Step 2. I take the money and supply him with an equivalent Red One MX.

Step 3. I track all the updates supplied by Red over a one to two year period but don't bother him with them at all. His camera remains static (sorry, I mean complete, sorted, release version) for that time.

Step 4. When he's ready to update, he pays me the cost of a new Sony/Panasonic/Arri, less the trade in I give him on his current rig (say, 50-70% of purchase price) and give him the "New, Improved" Red One MX and he's away!

You know, I'd make sure to paint something significant on the outside of the "new" Red, like "RT" or "XR-2" or "1400" or something to assure him that he's got the latest model.

I'd be doing him a favour, right? :Angel_anim:

BTW, can't wait for the new Colour Science updates. I can't believe how many times this camera has improved substantially and it's only been back to the factory once for hardware.

You make a valid points.
