  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

More HDRx...

Nice where do I sign? I'm ready to plop down some cash on this right now...I don't care when it will be released.

You can deposit the cash on you account with Red. I know some people have the full amount for Epic already with Red, as to not lose a single day when their number comes up! :001_tongue:

Sure Sanjin, that`s why I said MY dream of film is dead !

By the way film is not dead just because it offers another point of view that was acceptable for the industry for years and also there is something about flow or speed that digital still has to address it.I'm still n Austrian network connection that means iPhone and can't get whole page to exit on iPhone...hahaheheheh got al those MTFs ...

This should be read by all!!!

This should be read by all!!!

I have not posted for a long time. My days and nights having been monopolized with bringing EPIC and Scarlet to market, combined with the uncountable tasks that each and every team member fills their waking hours with. The journey has been a long one, challenges and setbacks at every turn; developing revolutionary cameras is not a simple task. I am surrounded by genius, from the man whose vision began this adventure to the engineers that don't sleep to the countless individuals that have dedicated their talents and resources to achieving the unachievable. I come from a humble background and am amazed, on a daily basis, by the contributions made at every level in this extraordinary company. But I am moved today to take a break from my normal routine and speak from the heart.

What RED is seeing this day, what the customers are being given a glimpse of, is arguably one of the most exciting and remarkable achievements in the history of photography and cinema. Jim's heartfelt reactions are being driven by sheer exuberance in the realization that this is a milestone, the combined result of passion in creating imaging technology the world has never seen with the pride in his team for pushing the boundaries beyond what was thought possible. His quest in creating a professional world standard in camera design is coming to fruition, a no compromise approach that has put the company behind schedule more than once in an effort to continually improve, continually move forward, while becoming more than just a competitive product in a competitive landscape, but instead, a revolution that advances the art.

The individuals responsible for this achievement are numerous, the stars having been named often on these threads, but there are many in the background whose efforts are to be applauded and I am in constant awe of all of them. We have leaders whose skills and talents rise beyond any I've ever seen in my 40 years in this industry, not the least of which is Jim himself. More than an entrepreneur and businessman, Jim is a color scientist, photographer and cinematographer in his own right. But the brilliance doesn't end there. He has surrounded himself with the best of the best; Jarred, Graeme, Deanan, Stuart, Ted and many, many more unnamed people come to mind. Our CEO is the smartest man I've ever known (and a good dancer) and the list continues through our operations management, customer service, accounting and down the line. This is a most remarkable company and today I want to celebrate the total contribution of hundreds of people in making it the greatest camera company in the world. Every person, every team member, at every level, shares a love for this company and shares in what it has accomplished in the last four years.

We have taken on film, in an effort to provide a future of progress for the captured image. We tackled resolution first by not being satisfied with what the industry felt was "good enough". We next strove for the organic "feel" of film, advancing color science and sensor technology to new ground. And today we took our first swing at the Holy Grail, dynamic range that not only betters film but challenges the naked eye. Flesh and blood mortals accomplished these things, brilliant ones to be sure, but fueled by remarkable leadership and passion for the art. I tip my hat to all of them and I have to say that I am proud to be associated with this awesome company.

This is a MUST READ.

BTW... Graeme is tuning up the application that does this... should get better.

Jim

Note to Graeme:

If it's not in already, please allow:

- luma range (to lower DR if needed)
- luma merge range
- luma merge center & softness
- stream mix opacity/value
- separate curve controls for each stream
- quick switch between single stream and dual HDR stream

Wow.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I'm really excited about entering the industry at this time of such innovation. Thanks. :)

I second these!

Extending HDRx down through the product line is genius. The entire RED line will have a clear feature distinction from the Big Boys. Also nice that this is some thing producers will understand . . . and will spring for.

The DR in this image is astounding. One question: in the motion example I see a "stutter" around the barn door. Is this just a natural shutter thing or something introduced by HDRx (or internet playback)?

Anyone know exactly how you can access your account? I can't ever seem to find a link without purchasing something.

Sorry if this seems like a silly question but HDRx is so new I'm trying to get my head around it.
But on an external monitor do you see the final combined HDRx stream image above.

Definitely glad to see testing is continuing, and evidently with some very talented testers.

I do, however, look forward to seeing future tests come with an A/B comparison (even just an M-X without HDRx so as not to bruise egos) and some more technical information - light metering, for instance.

Of course, what really matters is what comes out the other end. And from that short clip, it seems to be just what I want. Keep it coming!

Side note -

I love Peter's work. His photography is beautiful and printmaking pleases the eye to no end. If you can see a print go do it.

I have the strange sensation that from here on the world will be different for ever.
Don't get that a lot. Mostly when someone dies. Needless to say I like this better. :-)

Wow. Just wow.

Jim, forget about finding a manufacturing partner for Scarlet. Just buy or build a plant. Hell, buy five. You'll still lack capacity.
RED allready built up a decent reputation among pros, but now we are looking at the new household brand for everything broadcast and film for many years. It'll be like the brand value of Sony, Panasonic, Aaton, Arri and Panavision combined, on steroids.
Respect to the entire team. You did what many dream of. You have changed the world as we knew it.

Today the world of film production has changed.

I was on a shoot yesterday inside a car dealership we had to rent HMIs that weren't in the budget, because the location was all glass with brilliant sunshine outside.

Sure could have used HDRx™ for that shoot : )

I have not posted for a long time....
Been wondering where you were. Lucky you didn't post in one of the "I'm quittin' you RED" threads or you would have been labeled a RED sycophant fanboy... or even worse.:violent5:

Anyway, it's nice to have confirmation of the good-will and teamwork within the company. It's easier to dismiss all the enemies at the gates when there is cohesiveness within the camp.

two inventions about the world is speaking...

RED HDR and GRAPHEN (Physics Nobelprice 2010). A new carbon which will replace silicon and is very interesting for imagery. It is 100 times faster than silicon... 500-1000 GHz clock speed and only one layer of an atom thin, stable and flexible like nothing you know...
A pencil and Tixo tape....

:)
