  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red vs Sony F900

If you're a professional, you'll shoot with whatever is appropriate for the particular job at hand, considering all of its needs - size, weight, convenience, required deliverables, post production requirements (both in terms of cost and time), crew experience, producer's requests, and, yes, desired look - all of these things contribute to a choice of shooting format. Cost might also be a consideration, but on many professional projects it's not the overriding one. There is no one format that is "perfect for everything." Not even film, and not even Red.

True, but in the business where I'm in (commercials, corporate ASO) I need the best quality I can get for my budgets. In the past that was video or 35mm, in the future it's digital cinema. It is so much easier to get great results with a RED than with any other digital camera I know.

Thanks for all the input. I value your opinions. I am still shocked that no-one has done any resolution charts and other tests to compare most popular HD cameras on the market. People make tests for $3k digital SLR cameras to last finest details, seems like it would be more important to do it for more expensive equipment such hi-end video cameras. I understand that there are many factors in deciding for camera, such as work-flow, size, weight, easy handling, DOF etc., but certain things can be measured scientifically such as resolution, grain, color accuracy etc.

Anyway, if you happen to come across any comparison tests or happen to make one yourself please post it here for everyone.

Thanks
Radim
