As y --> 0 your argument is increasingly meaningless.Sorry for that, I ment:
Sure, but if x stops is including y stops of noise, then it's just x stops for the PR department and x-y stops for the DP.
I think that the camera represents ~13 stops on the sensor.
HDRx is best thought of as a way to capture HDR data automatically on set as opposed to just creating it in post out of whole cloth.
Maybe it's just that personally, I'd rather have understated and critical reports about stuff and get surprised to the positive end than having stuff getting hyped to death and then working on it myself and finding problems that people haven't been pointing out because they were so blinded by hype. Hype cuts lighting budgets because producers tend to believe in it, hype even gets feature films made on the 7D.
Please don't get offended just because I am trying to look at this with a critical eye.
Your attitude towards hype and gear is unprofessional. Every piece of gear ever made since the rock has been overhyped. Your job isn't to step onto set and try to work to the hype.
Your job is to TEST the gear yourself before you step onto a set. By the time you walk onto set nothing about a camera system should be surprising you.
As a person who has shot a feature on a 7D... the thing works. It has limits of course, but I tested the dumb thing to death before I walked onto set. Then I planned my lighting and shots taking its limits into account.
The 7D a terrible camera, and today its the best camera body for cinema work that you can buy for less than $17500.
Your "critical eye" isn't really critical. Most people think that any negative statement is a critical statement. Even some recent dictionaries have gotten this wrong.
Criticism requires analysis, and consideration of the merits and faults of the topic of consideration. That is not what you are expressing.
What you are expressing is doubt, fear and uncertainty. None of these are professional analysis tools.
So, if looking at the images or various clips you observe some issue, then bring that up.
Don't just make up a possible problem and complain about it.
Then again... that seems to be in keeping with most of the concerns on this thread. So, at least you aren't alone.
