  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

MEIZLER MODULE - Sneak Peak

So does this control red lenses via wireless? And if it does soes it support the old Red Zoom 18-50mm?

The iData pins on the old 18-50mm zoom are already supported for data xfer - fStop and focus distance. But you can't control the function of this lens because there are no internal servos.

Please Red, give us more details of what will happen with rpp's and this combo. Does this actually eliminate the red electronic lenses???? replacing it with this unit because it's a better and more professional solution to our needs????

Module, module, module… What about the lens on the front of the camera in the video? That wasn't a standard RPP - Both the focus and iris ring were turning; controlled by the module?
Could this hint to the next RPP's (or whatever they may be called) having focus / iris servos controlled by the RedMote, Touch LCD, Side Handle, & MEIZLER MODULE????

Can't wait for the big reveal at NAB. (and I may have a set of RPP's for sale)

G.

I think there are actually 2 motors clamped to the bar on the right side of the camera. They are showing you that you don't need the control box anymore. You can see them in the very beginning on the clip. However, I wouldn't doubt if they are developing precisely what you are describing. I just don't think this was a secret reveal of that. Still a baddass module for sure!

gone a week and of course RED has something new and cool to introduce

... sounds like a god send... but jarred... that is just MEAN posting that under-lit TEASER VIDEO lol -

Yeah now I see them - maybe I just got a little too excited.

I've noticed that the lens information is updating very slowly - after changing anything, it seems to take a second or two for any new info to show up in the EVF.
If this is the lens's "fault" it might be too slow for any serious remote lens operation.

Jochen (wildly speculation about something he has no info about)

I guess we will see. What an exciting module, I bet they have so many cool modules in the works. The possibilities are endless. Love you Red! I can see why my girlfriend is so jealous of my camera!!! HEHE

The big difference is that Red has a bigger direct client base to appeal to with the Epic and Scarlet. Realistically as you say it ought to be a very high price when done individually but when there is a potential few thousand customers that price can come down a fair bit I'd guess.

Having said that this does sound like a module ideally suited for 3D applications and may therefore come with a 3D price tag. Fingers crossed though!

Sounds good.

Paul
It will be really interesting to see how aggressive they can be with pricing - there's a ton of tech in this.

We use 3ality Technica's lens 6 axis control for 3D with Atom and it's amazing. That's $4,900 without cables or motors - and total bargin at that price compared to Preston, etc.

So cut that in half - 3 axis - and you are $2450 for only lens control.

Wireless video? IDX Camwave = $4,900 (transmitter/receiver) and it's a very inferior product IMO. BOXX wireless is IMO best product available with zero frame delay, audio, TC and HANC meta data from RED cameras = $15,500 (transmitter/receiver). Then you have Teradek - which streams video over IP = $1990 for transmitter + $1890 for receiver ($3880).

So ... IMO the module is worth more than $5,000 with lens and video ONLY - forget about all the other functionality - wireless audio, timecode, battery mount, etc.

Reality is - functionality wise - this is a $10K + module easy. It does a lot more than our $25K per system Prestons.

I'm with everyone here hoping RED can get this priced very aggressively - but this is actually a SHIT TON of firepower in a TINY package - and it has NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE.

I'm just saying the I think folks need to be realistic. But yeah ... fingers crossed RED can price this thing low enough for owner/operators, etc.

I'm wondering if HD-SDI flags will be supported in the wireless signal?
It will be possible to use Qtake or PIX240 after the receiver and having them working in auto-record?
Is it the HD-SDI on the module indipendent from the Brain's one? Can we set Clean output on wireless and Menus on the module so 1st AC can control the camera (from REDmote or Side Handle) looking to his HD-SDI on-camera monitor?
Thanks anyway for the MEIZLER module, we can't wait to have it, looks like the 2nd half of the Epic that was missed!

Hey there -- the wireless video in this thing is most likely is based on the Amimon Falcon HD chipset... It's multi cast HD-SDI (up to three receivers), with (I think) embedded timecode and metadata. In other words, most likely yes on the Qtake and PIX auto roll... There will be other products in the next few months / year or so that offer the same capabilities, from every other manufacturer with access to the development boards. These products will hit the market soon and we'll all wonder what we did without them.

added comment: Even Transvideo's Titan HD handheld wireless monitor costs $15.5K alone. That's receiver only (transmitter extra!) So, even if RED's module is 20K, plus receiver, it's still within bargain territory!

- Optional active REDMOTE tether mount to mount your REDMOTE and charge/send signal to mount on rails, side, etc.

Do you mean 1x 1B Lemo DSMC standard input power?

oh man, I just watched the video again. this thing is so damn tiny!

How many would order first day if this cost 3500USD?

I surely would (will :) ), and undoubtly more interested in the Meizler than the pro i/o, even without the extra evf-lcd port.

very cool, keep those creations coming!
