  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Macgregor and crew, Salt Flats Utah

keep in mind that it was shot in a DVX with an adapter that never surfaced. (I think) hence all the commotion in the past.

eh? Macgregor what is this? for real? That looks nucking futs!

Location means a half of the movie.

There are specific locations that could drive you only in one way.

L.A., Brooklyn Bridge, Chinese Wall, Eiffel Tower, Venezia could drive you in a many ways as you want.

But Zabriskie Point, Death Valley, Sahara, Goby, Namibia, all deserts, even salt deserts could drive you just in one way >> to inner or outer fata morgana.

Film is a metaphoric media anyway.

That's about the location in a film language.
Cinematography, framing, angle, perspective, POV are just typically film (or should I say now: digital film, as well? :)) commodities (I prefer it rather than "bulk product" LINK). Into the middle of the desert, the actors and script (beyond the time provided for the directing) should be which shall hold the media.

It's unfair to Miguel, any complaint these days. I'm not sure if you once ever heard :sarcasm: about rushes? Who would do the same? C'mon... His posts are the excellence of his generosity towards this community. Many thanks Mac! Keep going, keep posting. The «most beautiful RED footage» so far, so the best. Where we could guess what can make the good RED outcome. Type of glass, filters, etc. We all agree. I bet that if Deleuze would add his thought, he could also agree 'cause the context makes the throne and that's "the" fact.

A movie that nobody has ever seen?

Sometimes I wonder why moderators don't have a more active role on this forum, besides moving threads from one section to another. This forum is called "RED user", emphasis on the "user". It's about how this TOOL is USED, and all the technical considerations that come with it. We should focus on that. Not on what we perceive the artistic, intrinsic, philosophical or political value of the work of the people using RED to be. Far too often those who claim to act on behalf of free will and free speech do nothing more than sermon and lecture others. Please don't. Opinions and tastes are like anuses, we all have one, and like that private part, we should keep them to ourselves. This is NOT the forum to flaunt our philosophical, political or even artistic points of view, at least not when those judgments are in detriment of someone else's. Just look at threads like "10 favorite films" and you'll see the disparity of perceptions, some options I wholeheartedly agree with, some others I think to be crap, but consequently I suspect my favorite films would be of little value to that person, and on and on it goes. Being passionate about issues and not afraid to take sides are virtues, especially nowadays with the ever growing "homogenization" of weak values and ideals, but impossing those very views on others, specially on a forum not meant for that, is the worst thing any of us could do. I suggest we keep to the goal of trying to learn as much about this tool that is RED as possible, something this forum has enabled us to do, and leave those personal opinions to be shared with those who specifically ask for such opinions. That's what friends and like-minds are for. Let's learn from others, however different their points of views are from ours, and save all your energies and passions for when it comes time to create your very own film so that you can make it the best it can be, or for when you need to defend it from unwarranted attacks on technical forums from people you've never met before but yet seem to feel they have the right to judge you on artisitic or even moral values. Like somebody said: "Peace is the respect for others' rights"

Let's keep posting footage and reserving personal judgment to ourselves,

One more and I promise to stop.

Ok, if the locations you listed above, Zabriskie Point, Death Valley, Sahara, Goby, Namibia, all deserts, even salt deserts could drive you just in one way >> to inner or outer fata morgana.
Can only drive YOU one way, then maybe you aren't creative enough to come up with other ways to use these locations? Why couldn't someone film a comedy in one of these locations? Again, this isn't meant as an attack, or anything, but I really want to get to the heart of this discussion. Locations shouldn't be limited to one kind of feeling or vibe, if you're creative enough, you can do anything.

About Similo.

What can I say?

Could be a nice student movie!?

Supposed to be I dropped in the students sort of forum!?

But Reduser should be for everyone in a digital cinema field!?

Or I am wrong again!?

Mac and Zac could learn a lot for example from Gerry movie(GVS),
then from Tarkovsky's and Soderberg's Solaris about a film meaning,
a sign, an atmosphere, a music, a voice off and a composition.

About surrealism the most from Buñuel (as he was Spanish as Macgregor now is)
especially from his films like L'Âge d'Or, Los olvidados, Belle de jour,
Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie, Le fantôme de la liberté, Cet obscur objet du désir.
Almost all Buñuel's best films.

It could be good to know Mac+Zac cinema results after that film influence and education.

Athough agreeing in general with your point as you can follow from my last one, I think what Sanjin is adding to the discussion is very educative. This RED community shall just need for people like him. I've just thought that he should refrain his personal thoughts and beliefs about the merit of something like the best RED footage posted so far. *

* This is just a reiteration even if in travestied re(-)play.

I have to check out that film. "The Third Man" I hear it's great.

Sanjin, Similo is far away from Buñuel in any way other than both Miguel and Buñuel are or were both spanish... If the "film influence and education" is a relevant matter especially for a lot of readers here, I believe. And your point is accurate. I think you're shooting the wrong angle.

EDIT -- Stand correcting the respective punctuation marks. Accurately. Do you see? I couldn't also stand the «very accurate» vote despite what counts.

I am with you E.!

Emanuel thanks.

Now I going to leave this tread finally.

I did a lot to explain, posted two Gerry clips, did a lot of references and then almost "killed" by the mediocrity.

Nobody needs it.

Hopefully have always something else to do.
