  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Macgregor and crew, Salt Flats Utah

Macgregor, I like "SIMILO". Thanks for making it available in lots of formats too for download. I should have my own short up in a month or so, once it has completed a couple of film festivals - you might be interested in it from the looks of your movie and subject matter. :)

On a more general note, the movie people are referring to in this thread with Tim Robbins and Samantha Morton is called "Code 46", not Code 43.

Cheers,

Paul

Robot Chicks maybe?

Thanks for the correction.

One more thing!

Similo was shot at locations in Lanzarote (Canary Islands, Spain, west of Marocco and Sahara).
Also in 2002 I did some photo shots of my girlfriend there at the places between Playa Blanca and Valle de Femes in Lanzarote.
By the way Lanzarote is at end of February, March, April and May one of the best paces to shoot. Light is amaizing and incredible there. A shooting paradise.

Would you mind? Can we stop propagating this stuff in this thread, let it just be for Mac's shoot, ok.

"Mediocrity can talk, but it is for genius to observe."
Benjamin Disraeli

"I try to keep an open mind but I'm so tired of the mediocrity."
Clea Duvall

Reminds me of a quote my screenwriting prof. would say to us,

"Art has become so mediocre that mediocrity has become Art."

Interesting pics actually. A location can not be a representation (still photography, photography in motion = cinema, etc) but also whatever we want succeeding it.

What does a décor mean? If it will be taken as a cinematic element, then it has some useful purpous, if not...

IMHO and once again, Miguel De Olaso knows very well how to take advantage from.

I didn't want to post and just add to the mess, but I have to agree. This is the Footage/Field tests Sub-forum. Let's let it be used for it's intended purpose.

Discussing the decor is discussing the tests.

Lanzarote 3 (SJ in the shadow).
Hopes this above photos fit in the Macgregor's standard!

i like your girlfriend's dress and..

that hip should make your pleasuressss.. same for her feet and bunions.. i like both.. left and right foot.. but can you imagine what you'd feel if i'd call them.. yeti's feet?.. go figure!

ehehehehehe

i'm sorry but i couldn't resist.. and you have earned it pal.. :gun: this hostility against the humble Señor Don Mac is quite odd..

btw, shooter.. where are her eyes?.. eye.. cinema.. got it?..

I disagree strongly that people shouldn't be able to be critical of the artistic and technical merits of a piece. That being said I do disagree with Third Man's opinion. :)

Sanjin, I think it's unfair that you use the reveal shot in "SIMILO" to prove your point about geography. Imagine that you haven't watched the movie but come here and find this thread with Macgregor's link to download it. You have just spoiled the ending of the movie for a lot of people because now they know what to expect. Why don't you use this one instead (feel free to edit your link to mine, I don't mind):

This thread has turned dumb

Hey Mac, What do you plan to do with Engagement after you finish it? Festivals? Teaser for a possible feature? Bling bling?

As a member of the crew I can say that it was Mac's dedication and passion that brought everyone this footage so quickly. While the rest of us were relaxing after the shoot Mac was working into the late hours on his vision for this project.

The location is an important element of the story... so there's no sense in debating that point. Anyone who uses this "location idea" as a means to devalue the production is clearly acting out subconscious, childish feelings.

If you do not enjoy the finished product, then that is the time for artistic criticism. To bring up any other work as a means to further a personal character attack only furthers my point that this is a personal issue and not supportive of the community spirit that we all want to enjoy.

Artistic criticisms of any production are a fact of creation, but to attack a story with such accusations... without knowing the story... is not a valid argument. At this stage in the production... for Mac to generously share footage like this... there is only one valid response, and that is gratitude.

EDIT: I just want to add that comments of support are probably appreciated, but you gotta' laugh at the posts complaining about the thread growing with off-topic rants. Posting to say that you're annoyed by unnecessary posts is like writing "don't litter" on a piece of paper and tossing it out the window.

yeah, sanjin has passed the limits.. i already pm him.. but he thinks that has a point over there.. he tried to take me for his side, go figure!

but i can guarantee you, if i'm out from there, i don't see anyone else who may support his point.. :) he's alone..

i'm sorry but we must not allow him to enter in our party for damages.. mac, we're all waiting for your new footage.. we all know.. except sanjin.. don't let him to stop you.. i think even his interesting girlfriend  would appreciate new mac footage.. :whistling:

The gents were kind enough to post some high quality grabs of some excellent work. Give them kudos, thanks, etc. Whether or not you appreciate their artistic vision, their choice of sock colors or their favorite brand of toothpaste is moot. Could we somehow buck the trend of every other forum on the Interwebs and keep RedUser noise free?

Great job, great images. Everyone involved with this production should be proud. Give us some moving pictures when you can, we'll eat `em up!

I'm not quite sure what film history lessons have to do with Red footage posted for observation. Although the subject matter can affect our interpretation of Red's picture quality to a certain extent, I'm still more interested in what the camera can deliver in a variety of circumstances. The footage posted from this shoot goes a long way in telling me what I can expect from the dynamic range. It's quite stunning.

When the conversation strays into the "What is art?" realm, it takes us off track from the real goal here - how does the footage look, how did they achieve that look, and are there any lessons to be learned from this particluar shoot. Everything else is superfluous. With all due respect to Sanjin and others who have gone off on philosophical peregrinations, I just don't think this is the place to do it. Perhaps these conversations fall into the off topic category or maybe there should be a new forum category for the artistic merits of Red.

Either way, my personal preference is to be able to read through a thread of pertinent information.

Steve
