  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Some of you saw a sneak peek on this thread....

Now live on RED.com: TACTICAL TOP PLATE 2.0.

Also live are collections to allow you to purchase the new top/bottom fan kits at same time as the new top plate.

Last all the packs (rib and cage versions) that previously included the prior version of the top plate are updated to reflect the new top plate.

For those of you who had outstanding orders for the prior-gen top plate, your rep will contact you with options.

And if you have the prior-gen top plate and want to trade it in for the TACTICAL TOP PLATE 2.0 to use with your new top fans, we will give you $150 credit for turning in that TOP PLATE 1.0 to be used towards the purchase of the 2.0. To get this started, contact upgrades dept.

Even though it is slightly off topic, if you have prior-gen top plate and are looking to get it modified to be compatible with the new top fans, we are still finalizing logistics on it. Stay tuned for more info.

Question. I'm planning to send cameras in for Dragon as soon as it's available. Should I order the "Dragon" version of the kit? As far as I can see, the only difference is the button on the front fan says Dragon on it. And I guess I'm wondering if I order that kit will it ship before Dragon? Ir I order the regular one, does my button get upgraded to say Dragon when I do the upgrade?

Jeff I remember someone from red posting saying that you get the dragon badge when it's upgraded to dragon. So just order the regular epic one and it will get swapped out with the sensor change.
 
I second Jeff's question - but as to the difference between the Scarlet and the Epic X units. Asked before but AFAIK not answered. Brent?

Correct. Get SCARLET or EPIC now. When DRAGON update is done, the coin logo on your bottom fan will be replaced with DRAGON.

Two different things here. If you get your existing plate modified, it is simply making your existing TOP PLATE 1.0 compatible with the top fans. It is not "turning it into the 2.0". Credit is to go from 1.0 to 2.0.
 
Trying to tell on the image, is there a benefit to the tactical plate 2.0 other than it fitting the new fan, trying to see if there is a reason to upgrade my top plate compared to just getting my current one modded?

The 2.0 was designed with the new top fan in mind. The 1.0 is a mod to let it work with the fan. So, when mated with top fan, mod is "better" while 2.0 is "best" : )

But, hey, as with a lot of our gear, you have options. So some people may prefer x while others may prefer y....

Can you tell us how exactly the Top Plate 1.0 is modified to accept the new top fans? Do you basically just remove the "grid" or do we lose mounting holes etc? Thanks Brent!
 
Can we send the old top plate back to Red after the arrival of the new one? It seems crazy to have the camera out of action for weeks (I live in Australia) just because its missing the top plate where I mount handle, monitor and EVF. Also can we avoid FedEx for the top plate return as Fedex from the far flung edges of the empire would be approaching $100? Promise not to disappear with my new top plate. :smile:
 
Will try to answer last three posts...

1. I won't lie, the modification of 1.0 is a b*tch. We are still fine-tuning it, hence us not accepting 1.0's back for mods quite yet.
2. Tom, most companies would say tough cookies and not offer up a mod of 1.0 we'd do at no charge (aside from shipping) or a trade-in credit towards 2.0. But if you want to buy the 2.0 at full price in the store, then email the upgrades team to send back your 1.0 at a later date for the credit, sure.
3. See #1, we are still working on the RED version :)

It's clear by now that the old fans didn't live up to the expectations... otherwise, RED would not have improved on the design etc

Will the newly manufactured EPICs and SCARLETs come with the new fans? It would make perfect sense.

Otherwise, I don't see a professional company like RED offering their product with subpar components. Would they?
 
Medavoym, let's not get carried away here. Just because an alternate version is offered it does not mean the version released first "failed".

Some people, not all people, had requested another option, so we developed it. We believe in choices. If you feel you want them, great. If not, great. Your choice.

Hence, the 2.0 fans are optional. Plenty of people have shot plenty of incredible stuff with the fans currently on the cameras....
