  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LIVE: TACTICAL TOP PLATE 2.0

Will try to answer last three posts...

1. I won't lie, the modification of 1.0 is a b*tch. We are still fine-tuning it, hence us not accepting 1.0's back for mods quite yet.
2. Tom, most companies would say tough cookies and not offer up a mod of 1.0 we'd do at no charge (aside from shipping) or a trade-in credit towards 2.0. But if you want to buy the 2.0 at full price in the store, then email the upgrades team to send back your 1.0 at a later date for the credit, sure.
3. See #1, we are still working on the RED version :)

Thanks Brent, I think you answered my question... clarify is the ET top plate considered 1.0?

So.... what do i do in this case. ? Will the new fans fit under my VIEW FACTER top plates? are all the woodern camera top plate users in the same boat... ?

WC posted that the new fan fits under the Easy Top X with no modification. Someone may need to test the VF on to see if it works as well.

I give my v1 away half price for them to adapt once finalized or do it themselves easy really...

I opted for the V2 because it is way cool... ;)

Nick,

If the the Tactical Top Plate 2.0 is now being used as a Heatsink - maybe the underside of it could be coated with a sheet of 10 um PGS (Highly Oriented Graphite sheet) this could shed heat at 9 times the rate of aluminium.

Here's a quick reference link - http://semiaccurate.com/2013/08/15/panasonic-make-a-10-micron-thick-carbon-phone-heatsink/

There again - maybe the inside air channel could be coated - it would be like have a 9 times the surface area to cool the camera down...

The heat sink idea can help but it is really minimal in realtion of the heat improvement the fan can make. We also implemented the heat sink idea on the FanPlate with some heat dissipator but it is not the biggest factor to dissipate the heat. The heat sink should be applied dirrectly to the heat generating surface. The body is a bad heat dissipator so there is no much of improvement in that respect.

Pat,

With a thermal conductivity almost matching diamond - a thin adhesive strip of (10um) PGS connecting hot points inside the camera to underside of the TOP PLATE would, I believe, significantly increase the efficiency of heat transfer out of the camera and into the ambient air.

Here's an example of the 2011 version of the material: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAEhyY1_czM

With almost 10 times the heat dissipation than aluminium - I suspect the fan speeds could reduce from Quiet to Whisper-Quiet ....

If there is a direct link between the hot inside parts and the outside, I'm sure this will help. Now it seems that Dragon loves heat and we still don't know how much heat a 6k produces VS a 5k picture. Probably not more. So it could appear that there won't be any bigger heat issue as with the Mysterium-X camera.

We will see. See you!

I am waiting on this to ship! Really need it quickly! Anyone else in line to receive this? I am curious how many people are in line!

+1

I'm with Chad here, any news on the Top Plate 2.0? The new top fan is completely unusable for my camera till the 2.0 plate comes out. I can't afford the time to send in the 1.0 plate for modification, and without a cheese plate I can't make the side ribs work (there goes FIZ Controller mounting, wireless transmitters, A-BOX, etc).

Anyone from RED able to comment on an ETA for these to come back in stock for those of us waiting to trade in our 1.0 for the 2.0? I'd really love to finally try the new top fan.

Any thoughts from the RED crew?

I hear you guys. I believe last update I saw was backorder cleared up before end of this month? Let me request an updated line of sight.

Thanks, Brent. An update, or realistic ETA on production would be a godsend, for those of us who've been waiting most of summer for a plate. Thanks!

Understood, Chad, we traded emails on this subject a week ago : )

EDIT: Just got word from supply chain team here that we expect to have current backorder cleared by end of this month still. Sorry for the extended delay!

Great news. So that means those of us involved in the trade in program should have our plates within a few weeks?
