Are there conversions to Leica Rs that can be made that allow for electronic communication to camera through either EF? Or even PL?
No active contacts on EF Mount or PL (using Arri LDS or Cooke /i protocols) available not even on the most expensive rehousing,
because this would require the installation of encoders internally to both rings (focus+aperture) which doesn't come cheap...
Hi Everyone,
Hope everyone is doing well and in good health during these crazy times!
Just wanted to throw some new work out here. This is some of the first I've shot and edited after a recent purchase of some Leica R glass from Mark M. Shot on the 19 Elmarit v2 and the 35 Lux. Loving these lenses so far.

Hello Everyone,
Love this thread, recently started my Leica collection with the 19-2.8 II, 35-2, and 90-2.
I'm looking for a 5 stop+/- screw on filter for my Leica R 19mm V2 that won't vignette- I have the Duclos step up ring on the lens- 77mm. I would rather step up to 82 if I can... I tried a variable ND but vignettes pretty bad with my Panasonic S1H- full frame.
Does anyone have any recommendations, trying to avoid a matte box for now due to weight and cost. I believe I need a really thin ND filter to not vignette- not sure if it's possible?
Sincerely,
Nick
Hello,
I use this clamp adapter by RAFCamera on my 19mm V2: https://rafcamera.com/adapter-71mm-to-m77x0-75f . I installed it as close as possible from the front of the lens.
It works without vignette on full frame S1H with a regular Vari-ND from Simmod (also in 77mm). If I add one more filter, it starts to vignette a little bit.
All the best,
Olivier
I highly recommend the NiSi 77mm Variable Neutral Density - 0.45 to 1.5 Filter (1.5 to 5-Stop). Currently using it on my Leica-R and Canon FD cine-mod sets with the 80mm (77mm filter thread) step-up rings. Leica-R and Canon FD barrels extend while focusing which makes using clamp on matte-boxes a pain, so like you I wanted to go with screw in filters which also reduces weight which is kind of the purpose of using small vintage lenses. I have the same NISI pro nano IRND filters in 4x5.65 sizes that I use on cinema lenses and anamorphics with my Bright Tangerine matte-box when required and quite honestly I love them for the price point but after having the screw on version it kind of spoiled me. Other than Tokina / Schneider Rhodium / Arri ND's, this is the best option I found and they are in the ball-park for half to a quarter of the price. They also have a special coating that makes them shed dust, fingerprints, water droplets, and clean up way better than any of the competitors. Just be careful with them as they are not sandwich construction and you can scratch them up easy as the coatings are on the outside of the glass which also allows them to be thinner than competitors utilizing sandwich construction. The NISI has minimal color cast and is close to, or on par with Tokina and Schneider offerings which also don't make variable ND's in 77mm threads. I just shot a spec add using the NISI variable ND last weekend and had zero color shift or need to make color grading adjustments between shots with and without on my Canon FD's. Pretty impressed honestly and after being able to have the flexibility of 3.5 stops to dial in exposures without swapping filters its begun to spoil me to say the least. Not sure I wan't to go back to a matte-box. The filter is thin and you will have no issues with vignette or x-effect. I heard that the 19mm on full frame sensors vignettes even with just the step-up ring so maybe that is your problem? On my RED Gemini with its +/-1.3 x S-35 crop factor it's a non issue so that might be more of your problem.

Calling on anyone with experience with the 100mm / 2.8 APO Macro Elmarit-R....
I am looking to add a macro lens to accompany my Leica-R kit and I know the 100mm Elmarit is a wonderful option. The only hesitation I have is that it is 1:2 magnification and not a true 1:1 macro which does not truly address all of my "super up close" macro needs. If I purchase this lens it will be converted to EF mount with a Leitax adaptor and cine-modded so the option to use the Leica 1:1 Elpro extender is out the window due to the leitax ef mount change. The only other option would be a canon brand 1:1 extension tube or screw in diopters. I am tossing up the idea of avoiding the 100mm altogether and picking up something like the Tokina 100mm 2.8 Cinema ATX Macro that is true 1:1 magnification but have fear about have to deal with color matching between sets. Maybe this is not as much an issues as I am making it out to be but can anyone offer experience with how they address macro scenarios with Leica-R lenses and what some of the best routes to go may be?
