  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

LEICA R on RED: Pictures

I had my former Canon lenses moded by Duclos and tries TLS for my Leicas. Their service is good although I find them more expensive and their turnover is longer in my opinion. But they do a great job.

Did you get them all converted to PL mount? How is the Iris after conversion?

Ah, no good for me I'm afraid as I'm using them with Leica R mount speedboosters on Sony E-Mount. Thanks anyway

I've been curious about Metabones speedbooster for Leica R. Do you find it increases image quality/MTF as they claim?

Finally had a sec to watch this.

Really nice work Abe! And welcome to the thread. Post and visit often.

Thank you Brandon! David! I will indeed as things move along. It feels good to share.

Thank you Nick! I enjoy seeing your stuff up here on RedUser as well!

This project is special to me in that it marks a transition back to shooting after losing my 1st Red Scarlet MX to the Jamaican sea (along with my Leica 19mm V1 lens) while shooting for the NY Jets FlightCrew (Cheerleaders) Calendar shoot last year. I wasn't covered by production and was kinda left in the dust but Brent Carter, Michael Keegan and the whole RED team came through and helped me get back on my feet with a Battle Tested Scarlet Dragon. I don't think any other camera company would have done what they did for me.

Awesome story Abe - you are def back on your feet! That piece was GREAT!!!

Ok, I am gonna get a V1 19mm.....
But I would really like to have something wider that matches these lenses. I need something around 16mm.
Anyone know of a lens that will fit in a Leica R set. The 16mm Leica R is a fisheye.
I already have a Tokina 11-16, but it 'feels' different... a ...lot... to me..

Any Suggestions?

@Abe - Great stuff!

There is a 15mm Leica, but a Zeiss or Nikon 15mm would be really nice compliment as well and they are rectilinear.

Dimitri,

If you want to spend less even a Tokina 17mm 3.5 RMC is a closer match VS the modern 11-16 and it's rectilinear.

Color rendition is nowhere close to Leica's obviously but it has a similar classic rendering and for the price is not bad at all!

Thanks David didn't know there was a 15mm..
Thanks for the hint Tommaso, really like to have a Leica, but now I see why you said 'if you want to spend less' :)

Anyone has pictures from 15mm 3.5?

Anyone has pictures from 15mm 3.5?

PS that lens is allegedly same design as Contax 15 3.5 (Zeiss appears to have licensed it to Leica). Only difference is...Leica copies had Leica coatings. From what I understand.

For whatever it's worth....

Excellent and VERY EXPENSIVE lens at it's time....(when extreme wide angle full frame glass was VERY VERY hard to make).

Funny, I just came here with questions about the 15mm options, too.

Has anyone here ever played with the ridiculously expensive Leica 15mm Super-Elmarit-R f/2.8 ASPH? Thoughts?

Some 6K grabs I caught during my shoot in Nepal this week of the Earthquake victims, all on the 135mm Leica R:

So wonderful.

Shows us the true strength as I can still see and feel joy shine though all of that tragedy in some of those frames. Wow!
