  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

Late for the wishlist.
My Epic battery has run out and the only way to get it fixed for me is to send it away, and that I don't want. I would want an easily accessible battery change for Komodo.

I have to say something I'm excited about with Komodo is using speed-boosters easily.

Right now on DSMC2 and DSMC it's a pain. There are mounts yes, but they are expensive. Also most speed-boosters are designed for S35. Meaning they vignette a little bit on S35+ sensors like Dragon, Helium and Gemini, especially with wide angle lenses.

But Komodo's sensor is a bit smaller at 27mm wide (as opposed to approx 30mm that RED usually favors for the above).

So why is that cool for Speed Boosters? Well it means they may not vignette at all on Komodo. Or if they do, that should be removed by just shooting at 5.5K.

Also given that Komodo has a mirrorless RF mount, these should be WAY more affordable.

Honestly I can see using DSMC2 for an A cam, and Komodo as B-Cam with a Speed Booster a lot.

Waddya you guys think?

We is spoiled

We is spoiled

You probably should just give up now.... please. We started the very fragile 12-week Stormtrooper countdown barely 2 weeks ago... so I have no idea what you are already bitching about...

Can anyone name any other camera (or tech) company that actually gives you this much of a peek inside their R&D process, let alone takes and implements input from their users? Forget the information black holes that other companies are...Canon just "released" a camera over 2 months ago, but can anyone actually get their hands on one? Nobody's whining about that...

It takes me 12 weeks just to get my sh;t together and do the weeding in my front yard.

Let's not take for granted what a unique American company RED is, and let's just be stoked that we all get to be a part of the rollercoaster. Want a camera faster? Go build one.

Heh. Since your'e on here and not dodging agent attacks in bullet-time, can we get a lock on the body material?

Aluminum?
Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy? (I'm guessing this one)
Unobtainium?

Likely some sort of rigid frame in there?

Curious if you don't mind spilling that stuff.

Aluminum, You know we love Magnesium but it just doesn't conduct heat as well as Aluminum snd that little Komodo breathes fire.

ooh Jarred... I was about to send you some ice-cream at your office thinking this was one of you riddles to get in hands one Komodo for testing! jejeje

Nice to hear Komodo is doing so much already!!

I have a project coming where I'm wishing it gets push back so Komodo gets in time!

What jarred is trying to say for some of you that aren’t catching his hints, is that Komodo was used on the new Matrix movie.

Yeap Mardy, I saw that post on instaJarred about it. I do my work!

So excited for Komodo - quick question to anyone who knows, as I've only purchased cameras directly from RED online before - would the fastest way to get on the Komodo line be to order via Red online in the US (assuming one misses the stormtroopers for the short period of time I imagine they will be available for), or to buy from the local RED distributor? Not sure if there's a consensus on the best place to be ordering from :)

I'm guessing RED US is the way to go :)

Best to buy direct from RED if there's a RED Worldwide Location in your region. Check here: https://www.red.com/locations
I'm in Europe and for the Stormtrooper I will fly in, but for the rest I'll probably have them delivered through RED Europe.

The first rule about Ice Cream is.....

YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT ICE CREAM.

But when you get caught in the heart of San Fran zooming around on motorcycles it's pretty hard to keep that cone from dripping.
