  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO....

I wonder which should I get:

CANON DROP-IN FILTER MOUNT ADAPTER EF-
or
REVOLTA RF/EF

Any suggestions???

Thanks in advance

Revolta. The Canon one is a nice enough lower cost solution, but the NDs are way better quality in the Revolta.

Thanks for sharing...

I just ordered my KOMODO!!!! So excited... Got it with the Canon Adapter for now cuz I just wanna rock n roll as soon as I get it.
Then will get Revolta...

So happy right now :)

Do we have a compatible CFast list? Didn't see one unless I missed it during my search..

What's the trick for getting my Hydrogen discount? I tried my IMEI number as a promo code, that didn't work.

Official specs for Komodo have dropped.

Only thing I see awry is anamorphic shooting modes? Also would love to see a time-lapse and photo mode feature integrated as well. Other than that pretty tickled with my Stormy so far.

I think anamorphic support is not there yet. (but you can still shoot with a 1.33x anamorphic lense and gave it desqueezed by your monitor I think)

Isn't it likely that third parties will make better NDs for the Canon version?

Sorry for my ignorance, but could anamorphic support be added via firmware later? Or is it hardware-based?

Hi Jarred, just saw the new Komodo videos on YouTube.

One video got me slightly confused. About the lens mount/AF.

"But if you're hoping for electronic control you need to attacht an adapter...."

He doesn't mention AF for RF lenses are coming, but simply says for use any electronics, is only with an adapter.

So, will Komodo support or not electronics on RF lenses?

Thank you in advance for any info.

Yeah, that's totally what I meant by "yet" ;-)
Jarred has said it is planned, it's just not available yet. ;)

Support for electronics on RF lenses seems pretty important - Jarred, can you confirm that there is or is not a planned support of iris and focus control similar to what we have with EF? And whether it is simply planned or actually underway, whether it is working in some BETA form or if it is simply in development or simply an aspiration. If it is planned, could you estimate a time frame for implementation?

Komodo RF

Komodo RF

Also, 60 day window for hydrogen discount starts today?

I think this is the first generation of RED camera I haven't ordered on first day, but this RF issue is key because I'm transitioning all of my EF lenses to RF to use with R5 due here in a few days. Besides the limited 8K video I'm interested in the impressive stills capability. I see Komodo and R5 as complementary cameras but the RF capability is part of that.

Honestly, you get more functionality keeping your EF lenses and using an adapter, since you gain the ability to have behind the lens ND(both fixed and variable). And from so many reviews and video's I've seen, using EF lenses on RF mount Canon cameras with the Canon adapters, the EF lenses performed even better(AF) than they did on EF bodies. I have zero plans to get rid of my EF stills or cine lenses. The ability to use a behind the lens ND system is a gift.
