O I get it man... I get it. We just wrapped here last night in Miami and I can't tell you how excited Rintoul was when he was packed up ready to leave with 7 camera bodies in one carry on.

Are you kidding me? That is absolutely insane. Where i'm currently at is I NEED to pick up another RED. A question I have is, how will one be able to run a dtap off this camera for follow focus, or wireless monitoring. Maybe it's been covered?

Jarred: Can those buttons on top be programmed to do Canon lens IRIS (at least) and FOCUS ?

It would really increase my ability to make a compact, relatively inexpensive underwater housing for Komodo.

I've been meaning to email you about possibly getting an early (maybe proto) Komodo to start work on the underwater housing. Not sure if you are aware, but I made the very first underwater housing for the REDONE in 2007 just a few days after Gibby got his Serial Number 8. Ken Corben did some shooting shortly after with either Jim or you (or both). It was a pretty minimalist version but IIRC it got the job done.

For those that might be interested, my preliminary calculations show that with the reduced height and even allowing for an internal monitor and an 8" dome port, it will be at least a third and possibly half the size of current DSMC/2 housings and fit easily into a carryon.

If made without space for an internal monitor (for remote use or with an external monitor) it could be extremely small.

PS: (forgot to mention, I was a first day Hydrogen order.)

THIS right here, this is WHY this camera is so exciting !
Cinema Helium-ish (I hope) quality 6K cameras in such a tiny package it's just awesome.
Coming from a cinema school where, at the time, we shot on film, it is AWESOME !
(but that Bayhem Green is just... Not my jam XD)

Trust me the green really grows on you..... but don't worry Bay is the only ones that we will make Bayhem Green for :)

So tiny - I reckon it'll pay for itself in savings on physiotherapy and painkillers :)

You are correct. I think Jarred confirmed this somewhere back in this extremely long thread (perhaps someone can start a "what we know about Komodo" thread?).

yeah i was thinking its almost time to give Komodo it's own section.. This thread is painfully long but there is something I like about those that have weathered through it being the most knowledgable as Komodo still is officially unofficial. . Maybe that's me just being sadistic .

Wow, in my neck of the woods with Komodos! I’m interested to see how they perform down here in the July humidity :willy_nilly:

Amazing how many Redusers I've met here the last few days... even just randomly at my hotel. Lots of RED love in Miami :)

Haha! I've been casually following along since the beginning. I didn't even realize how many posts there are, now!

heh heh heh.. I kinda like that. What do you guys think? should we just milk this thread out as long as we can or try and be "responsible" and break it up into it's own section now for the casual people not to lose their minds skimming through 4000 posts ?

Milk it :iagree: https://youtu.be/UC4A7y7ONoI?t=12

i am interested in a housing..jim kozmik

Hey, Jim

When I get a minute, I'm going to start a thread (if it's ok) "Who wants an underwater housing for Komodo?".

Won't want it to get too heavily sales oriented - more about who is interested and what features they think are important - as a lot of the size will be dependent on what monitors to use, domes, etc.

And certainly Gates, Nauticam, etc. will be invited to chime in. I actually get along quite well with John and the staff at Gates, as well as Ryan Canon that represents Nauticam over here. Both make very good, well engineered products. (I think mine gives the best bang for the buck for most users' applications - but that's just my opinion.:wink5:)

In fact the actual glass domes of my dome port front plates that I have used for the previous RED housings have come through Nauticam, and I use their SDI and vacuum bulkheads as well.

If Komodo provides anywhere close to the IQ of Dragon and Helium I think it is a game changer - will be the first really high end, motion oriented setup that is truly compact - i.e. around the size we used to have for 90s era consumer camcorders.

Even with an 8" glass dome (already have a newer version for Komodo) and room for lens controls, batteries, and something like the SmallHD Focus 5" monitor or similar size - the housing should come in around 22 or 23 pounds total displacement (i.e. the actual total volume of the housing and the weight it needs to be to be neutrally buoyant) - and fit in a carryon size case or bag.

Could be much smaller with smaller dome and monitor but wouldn't gain that much. 23 pounds IMHO is about perfect - small enough for easy handling but with enough mass to avoid the micro-shakes you almost always get with smaller DSLR and consumer type cameras/housings.

BTW we will be making both Aluminum and PVC versions. PVC version has same depth rating and generally same features however much lighter - requires lead weight to be neutral but when weight is removed it is certainly light enough for surfing or even heavy weather or near water (beach, sailing, etc.) shoots.
