  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

KOMODO VAXIS WIRELESS VIDEO ACCESSORY!

Promotional picture made with a CG render put into someone elses photo without permission. Just to make it look like a picture of a famous person from the industry using the gear... that's normally not just a lawsuit, but two.

That's pretty cool, a few thoughts:

-+1 Gold Mount
-Can the SDI Out be on the camera right/AC side? If it could have two SDI out ports that would be neat.
-I'm little worried about the antennas obstructing the built in monitor on top of the komodo or even an additional monitor like in the picture with Bay. Maybe if they came from the right side? and/or with right angle connectors?
-AUX power out would be a great idea, to power onboard monitors and FIZ. 2x P-Tap or 2pin Lemo minimum. Probably have to put them on top? Preferably with some rubber stoppers for weather protection when not in use.
-I could be wrong but it looks like it may extend past the bottom of Komodo? That could be a problem for using the EXT box that Jarred teased with Timecode/Genlock etc. or whatever else will be coming out form Red/3rd parties
-it needs an onboard battery to work? (can't be fed power from camera if for example working with a small build for remote/hard mounting and powering via DC-in, perhaps it could have it's own DC in?)
-if the camera side mount was swappable to v-mount/gold mount that would add a lot of value as this could be camera agnostic. Would probably add a bit of length/cost and i'm not sure how everyone would feel about that.

I understand there isn't much real estate on Komodo or this module, which is/was already a bit of problem with the larger DSMC1/2 but Komodo makes it worse. Probably part of why Jarred is stressing that this isn't meant as an "A-Cam". I wouldn't mind if you had to add a bit more length to the back of the camera to accommodate power/SDI outs, as I have a feeling any build with (proper) cine glass and an onboard monitor will end up very front heavy anyway.

These are all great suggestions and we'll definitely look into each one. I agree, two SDIs will be nice but may be too much to do with SDI and HDMI. We'll update the group as we continue. AUX power is an excellent suggestion and should be doable. The module will not extend past the KOMODO and actually has enough space/clearing for all the IO in the back and should work just fine with the EXT box as long as the cables are all right angled.

This module is designed to pass through power via V-Mount/Goldmount batteries and making it take power from camera may not work well since it'll pull more juice from the smaller Canon batteries. Our thoughts on the design is to keep the camera small and nimble and also provide more traditional style battery options as well.

really love what you are doing here but you guys really gotta be careful about using other people's photos.. and other people.... in your ads .

Sorry Jarred. Just updated to photos/ad. Happy to see you like the design!

Also, would love to show you one in person once I get my hands on the finished version.

A komodo with full module attachments will still be around or under the size of a normal DSMC2, I really like to get Komodo into a fully functioning A-Cam and I really like this module with V-Lock power and wireless video.

How's the stability of it attached with a battery? Is there risk of it getting loose with lots of movements?

It will be very stable and you won't have to worry about the unit popping off once you connect it to the KOMODO.

This looks like a great idea for sure, +1 on a Gold Mount version :)

While I can not see the full design properly applied to the Komodo, I hope and strongly suggest that you make it for Mini sized battery and not standard battery hight, so that it fits tight at the same 4x4 specs of the komodo's body.

I might be in the minority here, but are there any plans to make a version that still uses the BP batteries?

you're spot on with what we're going for. Think GDU mini-Vs.

No, if you're wanting to use BP batteries and not an integrated style transmitter, I would suggest our ATOM 500 SDI which will also be released later this year.

very cool. I love my Storm 3000 and 5000 kits. It'd be cool to see a version of this Tx that is Storm compatible, or perhaps just a smaller/lighter Storm 3000 tx scaled down to Komodo size..

Unfortunately it won't be compatible as its using a different technology.
