  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

i don't know what it is about the red but i feel that it has a filmic look along with the Arri cameras. Using both i prefer red's colour space. I myself have ordered the Scarlet W and i can't wait to get it.

The first camera that i felt i was getting filmic results with was the Red One everyone around me seemed to be using the C300 or the Sony F5 but i felt the Red one even being an older camera at the time was a cut above them all in terms of image quality all the films shot on the Red One still stand up.

I am in the same way of you, waiting my scarlet w . RED it´s the best option and have the best slowmotion for this price

Thanks for clarifying. I appreciate how you guys are continuing to innovate not just the cameras but the buying process as well. Love seeing a company that's nimble enough to evolve on the fly.

Having played with some original footages these last weeks I just ordered it. The image is a mix between Red and Alexa, 80% Alexa though. Too bad they started promoting this camera with those videos. And even the very few videos you can find on the Web don't do justice at all to what it's capable of. It's crazy good. The most filmic and satisfying to CC footages I worked on, almost on par with Alexa images. And I was one of the guys laughing when it was released with these videos, the specs and the price. I owned some Reds for 5 years and I will probably continue to rent whenever I need HFR which Red is super good at, as owning Red becomes a bit complex for my taste with the fast-paced growth of the lineup. The Scarlet-W I initially wanted is already lost behind Weapons, Weapon 8K, Weapon 8K ana & Panavision DXL now, and they are not even in our hands that a new sensor is announced with the Helium. I'm glad I put my preconceptions aside and gave a try to the Varicam. So I think you should try the cameras and not listen to people who just read a bit about the subject through forums and spread the bad word or base their opinion solely on videos posted on Vimeo or Youtube (Red would be in difficulties since a long time if we were judging it through the 98% posted videos made of bad CCed tests and videoish home footages, they fortunately had some great cinematographers who made their camera shine).

Like most people on this forum, I'd rather shoot on the RED Weapon. That said, the 4K Panasonic VariCam LT might be the best alternative on the market right now. Not saying it's better than an AlexaXT, but it's a lot more affordable. Would love to see a proper shootout with the newer Canons and Sonys. The Panny's low light chops and color purity are pretty compelling...

Did you rent and do a test or were you able to get some original footage from someone who had shot? If you were able to share, I'd love to check some out! I really like the color science on my GH4 in VLOG-L (though I know some might not agree with me) and feel like it has lots of room to play, even with really thin DR. the LT has also caught my eye as it sits in the same price bracket as the S-W when you put a full kit together.

Cool, the updates to red.com make it feel more streamlined, more Red. I like the idea of flexibility in the packages and would, for one, trade a few bucks to get the camera kitted out appropriately for what I do day-to-day.

Funny emphasis on Red Bricks in the new lineup tho.

Blair, I trust your opinion so why isn't this camera compared more to the RAVEN than the Alexa?

FWIW, I completely understand checking out alternative camera options but it appears to my admittedly unsophisticated eye that the RAVEN is on a parallel with the 4k Panasonic LT.

RED's inability to deliver on promises can sure make something else attractive, but IMO, they've got us by the short hairs for now and it's going to take a RED-like company to break that hold... or a willingness to settle.

My doubt is if i should sell now, or wait for this MX announcement? If Scarlet is not included on this special MX upgrade, I would rather sell now.

I wouldn't be so sure. I also wouldn't be so sure if you bought the Scarlet or Epic MX used.

Thanks, Matt. We created those packages based upon actual sales data of what customers routinely purchased together. Although our first power source option, people still love them some RED BRICK. And don't forget this little trooper is on the horizon...REDVOLT-V Battery.
 
I was thinking that too. I admit I sometimes look at Jarred's profile here on REDUSER to see what he might be doing!

Yeah, that or the week just never ends haha. Running a business demands a lot in weird ways...can't imagine a company that has the orders of a mega-company, custom manufacturing for pros like a boutique, and customer service like a small business. Pretty much the best but hardest parts of working all jammed together into one sleepless ball of fun :)

Heck yeah, can't wait to rig up with the new v-lock batteries. I was never crazy about the idea of powering a drone-mounted camera with LiPo. Looks like we'll be damn near the size and wight of the Canons we fly now, but with way more camera, and camera control thanks to Latitude... just gotta get you guys to ship a camera now.

That was a joke. I have not idea when they will ship your camera. But I don't think your will be in September, as mine was ordered in January and it's expected in September. But then again maybe not.
