  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

June Update

Thanks Jarred for the news, Can't wait to get my hands on my 2nd and 3rd RED Cameras....Now if I could just direct and shoot as well as Adam Bricker and company on the latest season of Chef's Table.......:wink5:!!!
 
This is great news but one thing still perplexes me; do we have any cut off point for Raven-switchers to jump the queue for Scarlet-W?

Will flat out Scarlet-W orders continue to shift back as more and more Raven switchers realise the mound of orders that camera has?

As an early Jan. Order I thought I was pretty safe to organise a shoot for late August with the camera. I know that you shouldn't plan for a camera you don't currently possess but In this case I thought that for that sort of date I would be safe enough to do so. As a student film maker the acquisition of a Scarlet-W was going to in the long run save us a lot on production, I imagine our Kickstarter will probably have to take rental costs into consideration now

I'm also curious about this, as a Dec 10 preorder. Sounds like this are moving faster but even after this update I'm not sure when I'll see my camera. I certainly hope we're not being perpetually pushed back...

Seems that way doesn't it. Maybe something prompted by the Panavision project.

Wondering if there will be a price difference.

I was hoping it would be alternating. One Raven switcher camera sent for one Dec 10 order camera sent. It would make sense as neither switchers nor regular scarlet buyers are wrong saying they should be first in line. Now it seems that the switching will never end and that regular scarlet guys will not get their camera before fall. Also curious about what kind of priority scarlet owners get.

If you are eager enough to place an order for a Raven or a Scarlet-W today.. There is simply no candy coating it... you are in for a pretty healthy wait well out into the fall. 8K VV are getting slightly better as well.. We went through a few dud wafers for a bit there but Spherical and Anamorphic 8k VV should start popping up at the end of the month in very small numbers.

REDVOLT Expanders should start shipping the last week of June.

Jetpack SDI a big batch should start shipping the 3rd week of July.

The DSMC2 Side Handle finally has a date... We will have the first small batch go out at the end of July with a monster batch following 6 weeks later.

O and I know some of you Epic MX folks are patiently awaiting for your DSCM2 upgrade path... We still need a bit more time. It will be very special in a small but big way.

im kind of confused, whats the difference between wafers for spherical and anamorphic 8k? why differentiate? are they different sensors? i thought 8k was 8k and it just crops depending on settings like all red sensors?

ps where i keep my reds they want only CFs in their inventory not MG and i did it to one unit but its been kind of slow so far. will dragon owners also be able to get in on whatever this MX deal is? just cuz i cant keep my unit in rental if i go for MG but unless the CF breaks even im kind of up a creek here financially... all my units been slow lately and its really kind of shot, im not sure why or whats renting if it aint arris and red?

Exactly. Any word from RED on how this is all going down? Because if people are still switching and gettin priority, I think we should just know that now. No sense in hiding it, Dec 10+ Scarlet order kind of deserve to know if our orders have the potential to keep slipping back. Not trying to be a dick, just talking about expectation management. I'm not promising the Scarlet for any shoots but it would be nice to have a timeframe in mind. Of course, this is just speculation on our parts right now, so let's not get our panties in a bunch over speculation.

since ANA cares about sensor height more than width, you could do "8K" ANA with a "squarer" sensor...
those should be a tiny bit less rare than the spheric full size 8K sensor so could mean having a bit earlier / cheaper ANA version of the 8K VV

I think that if the switchers are going to the front still (I don't think so), you probably don't want more people to know that...... there would be more and more switchers switching.
 
I could be totally wrong, but I thought they cut off the switch priority after NAB. The whole thing was a bit confusing (as evidenced by the posts here) but I thought they put an end to it when they raised the price of the Raven. Somebody correct me of I'm wrong.

Oh, and this makes me happy. Gonna be a sweet setup with the new side handle!

Yeah, I thought I saw something similar but then people starting posting later in the May update thread implying that it was still going on. Again, probably just assumptions and speculation.
 
Switchers still get bumped ahead as they placed a preorder sooner. This is no secret and RED is not hiding anything. The same applies if someone switched to a Weapon Package, from either a Raven or S-W. The earlier timestamp stands and always will, it seems quite redundant to continue to ask the same questions although the answers were known months ago.

Allocations will be blasted out when they are ready, which is why RED consistently tells customers not to schedule a production around a camera that you do not have.

Also you guys with regular Scarlet-W preorders, you may be forgetting that all Scarlet-D upgrades have priority over those.

Thanks for the update - was hoping for more details though such as when RED expects to be done with day 0/day1 pre-orders... at this point, if I'm waiting much longer I'll actually be able to afford switching to S-W!

Just curious where you got an official, definitive answer as to whether or not switching is still actively honoring original timestamps. In the April update, Jarred said:

Which leads some people to believe that the end of that week was a cutoff for switching priority... but actually now that I'm re-reading it, he said "had your RAVEN order in after the Scarlet-W announcement", which makes it sound like post-Dec10 RAVEN orders somehow still got priority over standard Scarlet-W orders, but that could have just been a typo?

But if you could point me to where the definitive answer is from "months ago" that says there is no cutoff for Raven-switcher priority, that would be great.

Overall, it's just frustrating to have waited for the Scarlet announcement because the Raven wasn't the right camera for me but due to SO many Raven orders and how long it will take to fulfill them, there is possibly an open door for people to switch and get their camera first and there is a massive motivation to do so (not getting their Raven for months).
