Thoughts and prayers going up for you and your team, Jim. When you suffer, we all do. I support you all the way. Thanks for all you do.

For some reason, this whole mess caused me to recall an old episode of Hill Street Blues.

The scene was in a grocery store where a man had more than 10 items in his basket and was in the express line. The security guard, at the prompting of others behind him in line asked the man to go to another line. When the man refused, the elderly security guard shot him.

The police arrived on the scene before the paramedics and the man, still alive, was comforted by the officers and asked if he was doing alright? The man replied that he wasn't doing so well at the time but he would soon be doing better. When asked what he meant by that he replied "Because when I get through suing these bastards I'm gonna own this grocery store."

...or something to that effect.

Burn the hat!

The question is, IS ARRI (Munich) culpable? They maintain that Brevin acted alone. To what end?

Was it more of a case of determining new release dates and various more detailed road maps or announcements, or was it absolute cold theft of “know how”.

ARRI does what ARRI does, but I wonder what and why it was that they felt that they or Brevis HAD to steal or really KNOW something?

It just seems SO dim witted to me.

Here's something suggestive that might prevent a few people from burning their Arri lighting gear and Master Primes :).

Brevin resigned from Arri to form his own consulting company. Maybe Arri didn't like what he was doing and kicked him to the curb before he could do them more damage.

I also wonder what the connection is between Brevin and RED. Brevin had the password of his former boss and so he read his former boss's email. Simple enough; that's what the just settled court case is about. I really doubt there were significant RED trade secrets in this third party email. After all, during about the same period, RED was posting a quite public EPIC/Scarlet road map on this very web site. It wouldn't have taken hacking into emails to find out where RED's product plans were!

We know from Jim that RED's email has been compromised, but I wonder why and how. That would have been much more difficult than reading his former boss's email - which is quite honestly a rotten thing to do, but completely trivial to accomplish. I would think that if Brevin was involved in theft of Jim's email, the hammer of the law would really go down on him, hard. So why was there a plea bargain? It implies that some third party, not Brevin, is the guilty party for breaking into RED's email.

One curious point is that even breaking into RED's email has not helped Arri, or anyone else, compete technologically with RED. Everyone, including Arri and Sony, are way behind RED from a technical point of view. So maybe what they found was not all that useful.

The biggest imaginary nightmare I have is getting into law suit one day with SONY. The problem is that you can never escape those four letter S…O..N…Y, it’s on just about everything everywhere you go; you’d have to buy a desert island that is SONY free, just so your blood doesn’t boil everywhere and anywhere you go. Hopefully we see R…E…D on everything too in the not too distant future.

I got a nice chuckle out of this.

You do know Jim owns his own island in Fiji, right?

I think that's why he developed his own projector, so the evil name "Sony" would never have to appear in his personal paradise!

But I can only imagine his feelings if the evil name is actually "Arri". I'll bet Jarred has some Arri lighting gear he would not want to part with ...

Even if someone stole Jim's IP, they would need you, Graeme, Deanan, Brent and everyone else at RED to try and knock you guys off!

Karma is a bitch.. And I am sure the people involved in stealing Jim's IP will get what they deserve.

+1 Nice sentiment.

I didn't see a landing strip. Hope he owns a seaplane.

A big part of the RED SPIRIT is fighting for what we believe in.. We have shown that strength already breaking the mold of what the camera industry was comfortable with giving the customer. But that strength pales in comparison to the strength we, and specifically Jim, unleashes in fighting against right and wrong.

Im glad the United States Government feels the same way.. and am glad they took the first step with the successful conviction.

Now it is Jim's turn.

GO GET THEM ...GO RED TEAM ...

This is all so incredibly disappointing... the lack of ethics on the part of leaders in the industry is astounding and confounding... I can barely imagine the sense of betrayal. Brave heart, Jim.

This bitter pill amongst all the other wonderful things that are going on with RED ...I hope that you prevail quickly in this fight so that you can focus on the joy of making our heads spin...!

Sorry. You can thank Arri that my full time job is now dealing with Michael Bravin and Arri. Nothing else.

Jim

This is a truly messy situation I do hope you get the truth out whether or not Arri used your intel. :mad5:

Best of luck with dealing with all this negative stuff. Do hope you can go back to the positive things sooner rather than later. :furious3:

Jim has over 600 patents with his name on them... He didn't get to where he is today by stealing, lying, or cheating.

Thankfully, because of where he is today, he has the resources and the capability of erasing those that do.

It's best to live from the point of view of complete integrity.

Integrity gives you the confidence to do anything because it helps place you in the position of being incorruptible.

Seems like that is where Jim sits right now.

Nice seat.

David.

Truly shocking to read about that mess. Unbelievable. So sad, really, i'm ashamed for what this german company did.
I really hope the full truth gets uncovered and you get out of this in the best possible way.

They'll get what they deserve.

All my best wishes to RED and Jim.

BTW, the story about the stolen EPIC-M comes in mind again, just thinking out loud.

...
Maik, this should not reflect on your nationality or your country. Think of the company as being an international entity. This reflects on the business community everywhere.

So sorry to read this! Take care Jim, Jarred.

I'd guess the need for secrecy during the litigation, but afterwards I'd love to know if this is connected to that break in many years ago, or the theft of the first EpicM.

Can't discuss the details... we are learning them ourselves every day that passes.

No matter how serious it gets, don’t lose your sense of humor, as soon as you do, then they have you beaten.

Respect,

Eric
