  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jim Cameron buys...

It's at LEAST a $10,000 premium to get a machined Epic after you factor in all accessories, etc.

It's James Cameron. I really don't think he even looked at the price tag...

For goodness sake...3 months ago I decided to cheat in the "NAB '11 "Surprise" Guessing Game" by buying a Delorean with a flux capacitor, going forward into the future to check out the announcements & then returning to post the following:

Avatar 2&3 on Epic, and one more thing...Red projector :w00t:

Now it seems Jim Cameron has decided to delay his Epic announcement till after NAB just to spite me...tsk :rolleyes5:

Oh so, you didn't read the note, were it said, that you just also give away your life, when you took delivery of the EPIC M?? It was on the fine print TOM... ;)

Ketch... you need to learn to read the fine print better. You give away the rights to your SOUL, not your LIFE when you buy Epic M... ;P

for comparison's sake, if the purported budget of Avatar of $500M is true, and Avatar is 161 minutes long, 50 Epics is roughly a minute's worth.

He he so true... But it is for a good cause... ;)

Hey you know me. Souls are soooo overrated!

All these threads are making me drool. Can't wait to get my Epic X. I wonder, what do I need to give away when I take delivery of my baby?

What do you think? Why 50? May be to shoot movie at a few locations at the same time?

I think it has to do with the time and effort it takes to change lenses in a 3D rig. Takes literaly hours. So when the big productions buy EPICs by dozens for their 3D shoots they are in fact saving more than they are spending by having the rigs intact. 50 cams = 25 rigs=25 different lenses.

Cameron's assistants musta gotten mixed up when they were told "Get me 50 M's". The assistants went to Arri and said "Do you have any M's for sale? Arri said "Yup. They'll be ready close to September, and you will need a cable tethered to a huge recording deck."

Arri had great news. "Yay! Cameron is using our M's!"

Cameron finds out there has been some miscommunication. "These M'n'M's are confusing! I've always liked RED M'n'M's more than the blue ones! I want 50 RED ones...but not RED Ones. I want 50 M's. EPIC-M's, that is!"

OH, the CONFUSION!
If I knew you were this funny I would have tapped you on the shoulder and said hi at the 9:15am showing of Tattoo ;)

50 Epic = 25 3D rigs ... and lot of expensive glass

No, minutes with a good rig.

I wish people wouldn't keep propagating these myths.

How many rigs/£D shoots have you worked on?

I've worked with most rigs now and minutes is all it takes.

I guess it really depends on the rig you are using. Changing lenses, re-aligning, and re-calibrating of the remote FF usually takes 10-20 minutes in my experience with a element technica rig and SI2Ks... If you have to re-program offsets for the witness marks, it can add a few minutes (Unless you have a remote FF that can save profiles for different lens sets).

I just want to amke it very clear that there is Jim Cameron the film-maker and Jim Cameron the part owner of a facility company.

These are very different animals.

Otto Nemenz and Clairmont regularly buy dozens of cameras and nobody wonders what film they're going to use "thier" camweras on, we all know it's a business.

Just like Cameron Pace is, a growing company in the facilities rental market.

Learn your business, please!
