  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Jarred's pet dog... Izzy

It should work fine...

Jim

If it's the version for the Reflex Bolex aka "RX" it won't work very well. RX lenses are designed for the Bolex prism, much the same way 2/3 Video lenses with B4 mounts are, the prisms just do different things. You'll see a shift of the FFD and severe negative spherical aberration, not pretty !

Stopping down to 5.6 or 8 should clean things up considerably.

Matt... as usual, you are correct. I forgot about that one, but I also believe that only a very small percentage built were the RX model. Certainly worth noting however.

Are those the ones that came with c-mounts?

Only a small number of the C-mount ones are RX. You can tell the type by the letter A, B or C on the barrel, i.e.:

Type 10 x 12 A - this is the version with a built-in reflex viewfinder
Type 10 x 12 B - this is the normal (non RX) version
Type 10 x 12 C - this is the RX version

The Type 10 x 12 B version is not necessarily C-mount though - it can also be Arri, Eclair etc.

I have a 10 x 12 B. I feel relieved. Thank you Jason.

Jim,

All this talk about lenses, DOF, and Primes... Oh my (Roll eyes, grab forehead, and shake head... yes, that comment was cheese). Will you guys be able to give us any insight as far as price is concerned for the new line of accessories. I've taken notice to the package price of the fixed 8x Zoom (prices subject to change), and I was curious as to what it might cost me to piece together a 2/3" Scarlet with the bare essentials. Essentials meaning; what it would cost to starting shooting from an entry level price point. I'm patiently waiting for the release of the new line, but can't help to think about the total cost of a simple build.

Sincerely,
Zas from STERiO

Is it possible for Red to post more samples from the 2/3" Scarlet? Please?? :)

Man that footage has me excited too. I would like to pick up two Scarlets, the S35 and the cheapest fixed lens version, which I still think will be a fantastic camera for many applications, probably most of my corporate work, etc.

No one wants to release the new cameras more than I do. Please consider the following:

1. It is very difficult what we are attempting to pull off. If you don't believe that, look at any other program by the biggest camera companies on the planet.

2. The market sucks. It is a terrible time to release anything.

3. We are not going to release a prototype again. When we get it right, we'll release it.

4. The new releases are based on ASICs. Very complicated ASICs. Keep your fingers crossed that they actually work. We should know pretty soon.

5. We will put the new cameras through a ton of testing before release and do most of the firmware updates with a small group before releasing production cameras.

6. If you think this is easy and we should already be shipping, dust off your checkbook and try this yourself. Just be prepared to shoot yourself in the back of the head for making that decision.

Jim

Wrong thread. :) Thanks for the update Jim. Hope the ASICs work as planned so no more money needs to be spent and you can get down to testing. Let me know if you need some cold weather "testing".
