  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing the RED 3-axis Lens Control System

Awesome stuff, yet again RED....

The little I've played with - ie. what was shown at IBC - the quality and precision on this is great. Price point is interesting compared to the rest of the market.

WMD and THC - lol, you guys love a carefully chosen acronym :P

Wireless Motor Driver and ThreeAxis Hand Controller... what else could those letters possible stand for? heh heh heh.

I just searched the manual for any information on setting Zoom Speed and I found nothing.

Can you adjust Zoom speed with this unit? I love very slow zooms.

Actually it's Tactical Hand Controller for THC hehe

Jarred, mind if I ask about powering the unit? In the demo videos you're running power out from the XL backpack. How would we best power this if we're using RED Bricks?

The V-lock Quickplates have Aux out and you can use the D-tap on old school battery plates provided you just had the right cables.

Thanks, I know D-taps are usually looked down upon, but I'm glad to hear that combo will work. I'm guessing that cable may be offered via 3rd party sources.

Also one last question, I swear, but on the WMD, since there's no screen on the THC, will the WMD allow for lens presets (similar to the Preston FIZ 3)?

ETA: Just read through the guide. Yep, programmable lens profiles. Yep, that's badass and a half.

From RED store:
Lens limits are simple button press, as is the integrated RUN (start/stop) record button.
Yup!

So would these motors be compatible with other digital systems i.e the digital bartech or preston?

Nick

This looks very slick. Makes me want to ask the question does RED have anything in the works for other lenses and lens mounts, i.e. Nikon or Canon?

Excited to say that AbelCine is also selling the 3-Axis system. Come check it out in our showrooms in NYC and Burbank.
