  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Introducing the RED 3-axis Lens Control System

We killed the Proxy part of the Meizler... Which left lens control and wireless video...the last half which we will talk about later ;)

Thank you for all your hard work Jarred and the entire Red team, looks like I am about to put another big dent in the bank account real soon.

This is the RED 3-axis system, not ET.

Well is there still going to be a cheaper ET branded version, or is that scrapped? Because all the information and communication I've had with ET since this was released was very much in line with there being a non-red branded version at 12.5K.

I'm trying to be respectful here, I was just surprised the cost went up, especially for those of us with pre-orders since April.

ET's system will be $14,500 as well when it is released.

I love how communication works on this forum. You guys rock. Jarred, I hope i get to try one of these on some Seattle productions at some point. Looks like a really cool system. might have to sell a kidney and trade in my redrock remote. haha

I've been able to play with this thing along the way a few times. Most recently at RSH. This is really one hell of a piece of kit.

The motors are strong and responsive, not to mention extremely versatile in rigging various setups. These might be "the best" motors on the market today actually. I dig the WMD design a lot. While the video shows off the "clean" potential of rigging on the cage, you can actually mount that anywhere in reality. Nice and sturdy and quick to remove. The THC is comfy in the hand and not too bulky or heavy. Just a nice and complete kit.

New to me is the case, which is rad. Perfect for rental and quick deployment. Extremely happy to see that!

We'll need to get one of these early next year somehow to go on the jib and remote head setups. Glad to see it's now actually released and really hammered down.

This is soooo cool and so useful for certain work. but.

Ok Ill be the first.
Can you get, say 1 or 2 axis or part a kit together that works for your needs? Or is it an all in for now?

Sorry just went to the website and figured you can part what ever you need together so you don't have to buy a 3 ch system.
Thank you RED again...

You can get the 3-axis kit or you can purchase whatever you'd like separately. One motor, two motors, and whatever amount of cables you'd like. It's in the store and you can see it now.

Apart from the obvious features, one of the biggest advantages of using the RED system is that the WMD can inject metadata directly into the R3D files including Lens make , model and focal length, frame by frame focus zoom and iris readings ( even on lenses without LDS or i Data )

Now that's amazing. Frame by frame metadata.

All items WMD, THC, motors, case and cable are available individually so you can create your own kit with only 1 or 2 motors to start with...

How does the Zoom controller compare to say a Preston in terms of being able to set the zoom to a
very, very slow zoom?

I'd be interested in this as well.

As I said, thanks to RED for jumping on the horn and dropping me a line. I've been waiting for this enthusiastically since April. So I'm still really looking forward to the kit.

There are systems at AbelCine in NY and LA as well as the RED Store in Hollywood now that you can go play with and next week there will be demo systems at RED UK at Pinewood.

For those within spitting distance, we are now officially open at the RED Store in Hollywood on Saturdays 10-3 as well.

The little I've played with - ie. what was shown at IBC - the quality and precision on this is great. Price point is interesting compared to the rest of the market.

WMD and THC - lol, you guys love a carefully chosen acronym :P
