  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Interchangable OLPFs

So.. I bought the Scarlet Dragon, and this LOOKS like an interchangeable OLPF, but yet it has RED warranty stickers on it. Do I still have to send this in for the Interchangeable OLPF system? (I never got an email about it, but bought this in the 1st month of production).

Sorry Adam, that actually isn't the modular unit.

I also just bought a Scarlet Dragon, 2 weeks ago from RED NYC store. Not sure how long it had been in storage at the store though. I got an email today after I previously requested info about interchangeable OLPF. The email asked me to send me a photo of the inside of my mount to check if it's interchangeable or fixed. I just sent this photo of the inside of my mount.
*Edit: added better photo*

If there are tamper stickers, it was manufactured before we did the cut over in production.

My cameras have been there since Thursday of last week. I was just told on the phone that 7-10 business days is normal for this upgrade.

Just an update, but I want to give the RED service staff some credit for over delivering. Both cameras were received at RED on 10/30. The first camera was shipped back yesterday, and the second today. I'd count that as 2-3 days.

Could the NYC store do the OLPF upgrade down the line?

Still no word from RMA if my camera is approaching completion. Still having to subrent even possibly for next week. This is literally killing me financially.

Is is there anyone at red who can light a fire underneath this to get this finished up soon? Going on two weeks without a camera.

please. Seriously. Please!

Been trying to get the order sorted. It's a messy upgrade. I have repeated myself several times to several different Red workers and my Bombsquad. This has gone on side the upgrade was announced on Reduser.

It's messy because I can only order the upgrade kit with one OLPF.

I then have to place a separate order for the other OLPF.

Which I have to repeat twice, as I own two Dragons.

I also am based outside of the USA. So, additional shipping and customs transactions.

Messy.

Ruff and Isaac, I let the upgrade team know to get in touch with you and to confirm up everything.

All, a big batch of LOW LIGHT OPTIMIZED OLPF sales orders were blasted out yesterday. So, lots people should be able to utilize that whole "swappable" aspect pretty soon

Brent the RMA guys told me that they would pass along my request for a LLO. I didn't order through the website. Did that get registered somewhere in my account that I want that?

For those who need to see exactly what's going on when swapping out the OLPF:

And for those who missed it, I wrote up a handy little info sheet about how to swap out the OLPFs:

One hot tip, I like to use a "pinching" motion with my thumb and index finger when grabbing the T-6 bolts while removing them. Keeps them from going on their own adventures without you.

Thanks Phil. I shipped my cam today to get the mod.

I wish there would be a little plastic-lit available that one can place into the front opening of the exchange-able OLPF.

Why?
Because I fear that one day the screw driver slips and scratches the glass. (It also helps to keep the dust out.)

It could even stay there for the time outside of the camera. Like a lens cap.

Edit: I took from Phil an image and placed an 3D sketch in it./edit

I can put it into a 3D model in the moment I have my kit here. Which might be easier to communicate. (or) Perhaps even create a prototype.

If you are super concerned here's something you can do.

There was a rather odd moment where I worked on 15 Red cameras. In the prep I utilized electric tape over the lens mount area to protect the cameras while they were getting a good and well needed scrubbing.

So the solution I'd personally recommend if that's a fear is 99 cent electrical tape.

However, my bigger advice is to have the camera on a level surface or slightly tipped downwards and gravity will help you out. Gravity is on sale this week for the special price of free :)

Little bits of dust are going to happen, but so far a hand blower has been all I've needed to tackle anything on the glass itself. The rubber gasket on the OLPF is a bit more grabby when it comes to particles, a light brushing or electrical tape can handle that.

Phil Tape might be cheaper, for sure.

:o)

I took an image of yours and placed an sketch into it.

Maybe a third party solution?
I'd buy it.

Anyone have a 3d printer?! This would be cool... That would help for blackshading as well haha.
