  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Interchangable OLPFs

Has anyone actually gotten their swappable modules yet? Specifically, the low light one? I've had my camera switched to the new system with the skin tone OLPF installed, but haven't heard anything from my bomb rep about when the LL filter is going to start shipping.

Nick, certainly having one of the frist Carbon Fibers means that your camera (and mine as well) were birthed very early in the Dragon growth cycle. I for one am always thrilled to get any internal boards upgraded for free to the latest and greatest versions that the Dragons shipping now receive. It keeps my camera fresh, up-to-date and certainly not obsoleted or somehow left behind because I was an early adpoter of the Dragon line... To the contrary, I've been able to shoot Dragons exclusively now for well over a year (and a year and a half since my first Dragon shoot) and many people are just NOW getting cameras upgraded! This all means the shelf life of my camera is FAR from over.

And that my friend is pretty effen cool!

Hi Chris,

I completely agree that RED has been spot on, as regards the OLPF system changeout. Boards are included (FREE), if necessary, with the OLPF mechanism and, as I stated, I am VERY HAPPY, with the service I received from RED on the last camera that I sent in. The Carbon Fiber that I sent into RED last week is just two months old. That was the reason for my post. The thought being that there is a crush of cameras going in for the changeout at RED and factoring in board change outs, based on camera's age, will likely give an indication to those, who are sending in cameras what their turn around time would likely be, depending... I don't know any more than that about the board change outs requirements, but maybe useful to know.

Looking forward to the OLPF's, which are scheduled to ship 7-10 days from order, per the update in the RED store!!

Thank you very much

Fury

So, yeah, if nothing else is discovered during IQC, we do think 1-2 days for the swappable OLPF conversion is pretty standard. But, now that we are shipping more of the LLO OLPFs (production just wrapped up a nice batch late last night - you are welcome, Sergio, haha), we also expect a spike of people sending in their cameras to get converted. And a resulting additional time we need to perform the update.

And, yes, we are seeing a big wave of cameras coming in for the DRAGON upgrade. As usual, we are going as quickly as we can without sacrificing quality control.

Thanks for your patience....

How do I check the camera during the DIY swap if all boards are up-to-date?

Dr Sassi, another reason we recommend the camera coming to us for the update, instead of DIY. We perform full IQC before we perform the update. I don't know the full extent of the Fury situation, but it may have been something unrelated to the OLPF update that we took care of. But, for the most part, I do know the very early DRAGON deliveries will need the board swaps for the OLPF update to even work.

Gavin, only update is that they are shipping.

Fury is quite happy and just got notification that the additional Skintone OLPF's that he ordered when 1st on RED store, are going to ship to him soon...or pickup at RED.

Things are moving actually quickly overall, at this point.

Thank you very much

Fury

Brent, if we had the original v-1 OLPF but sent in to RED for an update to v-2 OLPF, are our boards current and therefore eligible for the self-installed swap kit?

Elsie, you are correct. If you sent in to have your LOW LIGHT OPTIMIZED OLPF updated to a fixed SKIN TONE-HIGHLIGHT OLPF, you should be all set.

Thanks a lot, Brent.

My update was in July 2014, which is certainly not very early nor was early at all in the update line. It has the (1B) on the bottom.
I will of course continue to read RU's experiences with it here. BTW, is the DIY video somewhere available? Which might help me to get more certainty in my decision.

All I found so far on RED.com

My best wishes.

If we already requested the DIY kit, can we change to "send the camera over" option now?
Given this new development (possible board replacement etc)

If yes, how do we do it?

Thanks Brent.

I think I got my Dragon update on 23rd of May, 2014, would my camera need a board swap?

Again, Fury's board update might not have been directly tied with swappable update. He may have just needed a board replaced and we took care of it in warranty.

The short answer is if we KNOW you need to send in your camera, we will not send out the DIY kit, we will let you know it has to come back to RED.

See above, we will let you know and not send DIY kit. However, from the beginning, we have said sending in is the recommended path. You get a full IQC as part of the process.

But, yes, you can change. When RMA team contacts you when you are up in queue, let them know.

Same as above two. If we know, we will let you know when we assign RMA. However, you do not get the added benefit of a full IQC and possible in-warranty stuff if you DIY.

Proof positive you are daddy to little ones

Every Friday is popcorn movie night in our house. Lego Movie was two weeks ago : )

... : )

Thanks for clearing that -- and sorry to have asked, so far my experience shows that RED cares!

So.. I bought the Scarlet Dragon, and this LOOKS like an interchangeable OLPF, but yet it has RED warranty stickers on it. Do I still have to send this in for the Interchangeable OLPF system? (I never got an email about it, but bought this in the 1st month of production).
