  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Inexpensive gadgets and accessories you can't do without.

DIY China Ball: 1. China Ball light base: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Photo-Video...392?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5af3b389f82. Flo light bulbs: http://www.buylighting.com/200-Watt-Compact-Fluorescent-5000K-Full-Spectrum-p/fe-iiib-200w-50k.htmThis 200 W flo will output to 600 W incandescent, that's like a 2.4K China Ball that you can plug into a 110 outlet-now that's cool Or Home Depot sells the 85W flo for about ten bucks, that outputs to 300 W incandescent, that's a 1.2K China Ball 3. China Ball: http://www.pier1.com/Hanging-Paper-Lanterns/PS849,default,pd.html?cgid=lighting4. China Ball Or: http://www.filmtools.com/30whitpapchi.html5. Paint Pole Boom Pole: http://www.amazon.com/Shur-Line-065...9-Feet/dp/B00192AAC6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top6. Paint Pole Stud Adapter: http://www.kaceyenterprises.com/?page_id=447
I feel that pulling 800 W out of that 20 dollar light fixture would be to much for it to handle. Have you tested it with that exact fixture? Also mine is this, MUST have for a boom pole or China Ball on a pole. This is the exact same thing they sell at BnH but it has a threaded stem.http://www.walmart.com/ip/Attwood-Stainless-Steel-Wire-Form-Rod-Holder/16203685 11.99VShttp://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/885688-REG/Auray_BPH_BOOM_POLE.html 29.99

@Kyle Gentz

I decided to buy the five socket unit (instead of the four socket unit) from the same company with the same label Photo Studio. Yes, it works great with fluorescent bulbs. I have five 45W fluorescent bulbs that are equivalent to about 1K incandescent light. The operative word here is fluorescent, PLEASE only use this fixture with florescent bulbs. So, five 45W fluorescent bulbs add up to only 225 total watts for the fixture.

Yes, it works great as a China Ball light. I have never had the paper catch on fire with five 45W flo bulbs in the paper lantern, that's always a good thing :)

Ryan, you will be very happy with this bundle (for the price of $279).

$30 EVF mount:

When shooting in remote or difficult outdoor locations a small, quickly shootable camera configuration becomes very important. I have tried and tried to figure out the smallest configuration to make the camera. I feel the smaller and more convenient to get the camera out of the bag the more you end up shooting....less hassle with the equipment equals more time being creative and developing your shot.

Mounted to the EVF:

- I Drilled out the bottom hole because it is threaded, you do not want it to be threaded. This way you can use a 1/4-20 knobbed bolt to tighten it to the Red Side Rail. This allows you to move the EVF to your desired angle one handed!

Hand Tightenable 1/4-20 scew. This connects the EVF to Camera/RED Rib

Rubber washer goes between bent rail bracket and camera/red side rail: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Three-15mm-Rubber-Washer-with-1-4-Hole-Tripod-Bracket-/170890765151

If you want up Height adjustability you get: http://www.red.com/store/products/bolt-on-camera-guide-clampn

You can go even smaller configuration with only about an 1/8" between camera and EVF, if you get a 1/4-20 male to female 1/4-20 adapter you can put the WC Bent Rail arm straight into the Red Tactical Left Aadater http://www.red.com/store/products/tactical-bottom-adaptor-left

Camera can be pulled straight out of the pack, without pluging in cables, putting on batter backs or monitors...just press the power button and start rolling:

Hope this is useful to anyone trying to make the camera small and quickly shootable!

Cheers!

I use one for my Bartech kit, one for my Paralinx Arrow+ Kit, and one for my 7" Marshall Monitor. They fit perfectly into a cinebag!
