  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Inexpensive gadgets and accessories you can't do without.

Hi Bjorn,

Could you please detail the way you see Dragon minima's and RRX working with this sort of setup? Also, should you post a link for the DIT case that you would advise, for this purpose and international flights as well. I have the MAXXdigital chassis, but do have some concern that there is only one screw holding the RRX in place and the other end is in a slot (vibration). I imagine other enclosures have the same attachments. I can't see the photo of your case well enough to discern if you remove the card and put it into its own case.

Thank you very much

Also Check out their Spyder POD vehicle mounting system, I paid $550 (Few months ago) for refurbished one.
Now its one sale for $399 with purchase of $99

Used one on a feature film a little while back, it handled a RED Epic weighing in at about 22lbs at about 100kph. I was thoroughly impressed over the 4 days we used it.

I recently figured out that standard issue Military Aviator Kit Bags have the exact same footprint as a Pelican 1510. You can get the cheap no-frills version new for $40 online or the goruck version for $195. You can even spend more than that to buy an antique one on ebay. If you're looking for a way to carry all of your gear to the car in one trip, this may be it.

Here's mine at the beach.

My 2 apples boxes, painted them black, and always bring them. Great for sitting on when operating, reaching ceilings, put a low bowl
on, put a practical on, or a slider. The great thing is you have 3 heights in one box. Used to have only one, but it was always used for something in the set so bought another one so i call still sit on one :)

A regular old china ball along with a 60 watt and 100 watt bulb and dimmer. Travels flat.

ALWAYS have my leatherman.

One medium toolbox that carries all types of small things: screws, audio connectors, video connectors, batteries, small tools and all types of other small hardware. This toolbox has saved the ass of many other departments at various times as well as my own.

Black paper 2" gaff tape. I use it much more than regular gaff.

A new Dragon OLPF perhaps

Maybe this: The rubber shroud that holds the MX OLPF . I could make it from black TPE ( flexible ) to hold replacement OLPF kits for MX.
This lets you get Dragon sharpness from your MX sensor.

Been using those docks for backup when traveling for 2 years now. Great for us dealing with hundreds of GB of footage a day.
we always have on enterprise class hard drive for every cheap hard drive that we can stick right into our editing machine when we get back home.

$30 EVF mount:

When shooting in remote or difficult outdoor locations a small, quickly shootable camera configuration becomes very important. I have tried and tried to figure out the smallest configuration to make the camera. I feel the smaller and more convenient to get the camera out of the bag the more you end up shooting....less hassle with the equipment equals more time being creative and developing your shot.

Mounted to the EVF:

- I Drilled out the bottom hole because it is threaded, you do not want it to be threaded. This way you can use a 1/4-20 knobbed bolt to tighten it to the Red Side Rail. This allows you to move the EVF to your desired angle one handed!

Rubber washer goes between bent rail bracket and camera/red side rail: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Three-15mm-Rubber-Washer-with-1-4-Hole-Tripod-Bracket-/170890765151

If you want up Height adjustability you get: http://www.red.com/store/products/bolt-on-camera-guide-clampn

You can go even smaller configuration with only about an 1/8" between camera and EVF, if you get a 1/4-20 male to female 1/4-20 adapter you can put the WC Bent Rail arm straight into the Red Tactical Left Aadater http://www.red.com/store/products/tactical-bottom-adaptor-left

Camera can be pulled straight out of the pack, without pluging in cables, putting on batter backs or monitors...just press the power button and start rolling:

Hope this is useful to anyone trying to make the camera small and quickly shootable!

Cheers!

Just going back through the thread this post needs more love. Absolutely brilliant solution. Love it.

Bank Supplies has all types and sizes of clear vinyl zipper bags, which I use for everything - cables, noga arms, the 5'' LCD, all widgets and gadgets. they don't weigh anything and keep things from banging against each other. I even keep my backup AT897 microphone, which did not come with a case, in its own vinyl zipper bag. SmallHD DP6 monitor also fits in one.

Advantages are speedy access, highly protective, and you always grab the right widget because these are see through. Also sturdy. Keeps things organized. Comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, prices if you just search the site.
