  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Incredible...

Now that's a thing of beauty...and nice follow focus on there too!

Looks like a serious setup for some mobile cine-style work...and shooting some stills too

MMm, tasty looking, Jim.

What is that to the lower right of the lens? Is that part of the follow-focus mechanism that somehow cradles underneath?

Can't show you everything yet...

New hand strap render looks very cool...

I'm also liking those tapped screw holes on top of the brain for accessory mounting

Great new render image! Is it me or are they getting more and more detailed? You can see all kinds of things inside of the ventilation grid.

(How long does it take to render something like this?)

Thank you, Jim!

How is it any more dangerours than a film camera?

I'm not sure I'd use the phrase "dangerous". Uncomfortable. The balance of the camera has always left me and many other operators and most especially AC's loving (for its image) yet cursing (for its bone-twisting balance and density) the Red. Going handheld simply WILL leave you with bumps, scratches and bruises you'll be hard-pressed to explain at the end of the day. I cannot swear to this by any means but with, say, an Arri 435 this doesn't seem to happen enough to be so conscious of it. The weight of the camera in relation to its volume (and balancing) feels like a punishment made with Procrustes in mind. I can't count the number of epithets I've heard streaming from the mouths of even the most genteel AC as some accessory takes its ounce of flesh. It's certainly more about the accessories and attachments than it is the camera body, though.

As to "why", I'm guessing a look at the various silhouettes from plan and elevation views shows it: Compare the number of curved surfaces or almost flush clasps and such of "mature" designs (on any example of industrial design, not just movie cameras) to the hard edges, serrated curves and protruding bits and pieces of the "young" industrial design of the Red-- it's not a condemnation of Red to say that the industrial design of the Red, like any design, will hopefully mature to become more user-friendly. Surely every camera maker could benefit by spending more time and effort on ergonomic considerations--but hey, since Red already revolutionized the camera's technology, why stop there!?

That is one cool setup. Just wondering, if one was going to run around with that kind of setup, what kind of weight should we expect to be carrying?

You have a surprise coming... soon.

I'm more worry about people fainting in front of this camera

bravo RED bravo

If this was asked here I missed it:

If I have two recording modules... Does it record on both at the same time?

Let's say: Single CF module + SSD Module.

Dump the CFs and the SSD is dumped at the end of the day at a different place as backup.

Sounds nice.
