  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Clean output - but we don't want it!

We are shooting around the world with Reds using build 15 (2.2.5) and are experience a weird problem where the HDSDI output to the director's monitor is completely clean - it shows the whole image including the look-around area, but no framelines or timecode.

I'm sure you are all jealous that we have the much-requested clean outputs, but we would really like to have the framelines back. Yesterday the director sent the helicopter out of our shot because he had no framelines to judge by.

Any ideas?

Crewpix,
I've had this problem but only in the EVF after I use the focus assist Image Magnification function and then attempt to return to normal view. First the finder goes dark, then if you press the Image Magnification button again the picture appears but with no data, then dark again, then normal (sometimes)
Was hoping someone would reply to my "Viewfinder Notes" post in Accessories, but so far I'm not sure if anyone else is experiencing this.
Sounds slightly different from your problem anyway, but I bet related.
Cheers,
Harry

Try masking it with tape???

This is a know issue.

IF you have LCD + EVF plugged in at the same time - you get the FULL sensor image with NO GRAPHICS out the preview.

IF you unplug one of the two (LCD or EVF) - you will see your framelines.

Sadly, there may not be a resolution to this other than using a monitor with adjustable frame lines.

unplug your LCD, they will appear, and then tape the monitor.

Exactly. This has been a known issue for over a month. Problem is, unless you have a DIT or a crew member who lives on here, you wouldnt know that.

REDUSER is a great resource, or you could also had read the Build 15 Release Notes and / or the Operations Guide ....

LOL!! Or about 20 other important things!

Lol, I have thoughts that I should come here less, but then I get scared that I'll miss something important.

This happened to me also. However, restarting the camera fixed it (along with some cable swapping and button pushing, but I'm pretty sure it was the restart that did it).

A re-boot wouldn't change anything, so it could only have been the cable swapping (unplugging either the EVF or LCD) that was responsible for that.

so...what's stopping someone from getting a clear piece of acetate, tracing the frame outline, then creative use of velcro and material to hold it in place?
Better than masking tape it would seem.
You could make several for different shot ratios.
Am I missing something?
