  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

IBC - GPU Build REDCINE-X Beta 21

Hi David,

This issue was fixed in build 21.1. You can find it at red.com/downloads.

Thanks,
David
Build 21.1.30346 Beta (downloaded today) is doing the same thing. (AMD Firepro M4000, and the problem also occurs on HP Z820 with Nvidia Quadro 5000)

Using REDLINE, how do you specify which card to use if there are multiples of the same card?

--deviceName <string> Which OpenCL device to use

If I have multiple "GeForce GTX 680" how do I specify which one?

RedRocket gets disabled for Dragon clips, Is this a permanent or temporary limitation?

[10-08-12-17-46-126] RED ROCKET 1 cannot be used for clips shot on RED Dragon. Falling back to software decode.

I am able to output to openexr on my machine. For reference here are my specs.
i7 2600k, 16ram, Output to a WD Raptor hdd, gtx670
Hmmm ... i used the dragon clip from phil that you used and that worked "most" of the time(Phil's work is just charmed). I got crashes when I tried to resize Phil's shot sometimes. there must be something going on in the resize logic(i normally work with monochrome btw).

Can you please send an R3D snapshot to redcinex at red dot com showing this and your *exact* debayer settings please? Thats denoise, sharpness, and detail. Thanks!

Email sent! Thanks! Here's a screencap from the laptop: (for some reason I can't insert a blasted carriage return)

I have a MacBook Pro 8,2 that I'm trying Build 21.1 Beta on.
It has a Radeon 6750m w/ 1GB memory and shows as supporting OpenCL 1.1
As well as an i7 2.3GHz and 16GB of system RAM

When i go into the "system" section of preferences in Redcine-X it reads I have no OpenCL 1.1 devices
I've rebooted, reinstalled and ensured graphics switching is turned OFF (only uses radeon card)

Is Anyone else able to get this to work?

RED, should this work?

Thanks!

I tried the older build of RCX... 21.03... which incorrectly(i suspect) reports the video card as only having 512MB RAM - MAC sys info and the original mac box both report the Radeon HD 6750M as having 1024 MB VRAM... so hmmm... where do I send bug reports to? I have no other displays connected atm, just using the plain built in LCD atm.

On a side note it definitely seems accelerated on the 21.03 build... renders & playbacks previews way faster of 4K content w/ openCL turned on!

...but OpenCL won't enable on the 21.1 build and renders and playbacks previews of 4K content painfully slow... a single frame takes approx 10 secs to render.

Thanks!

I just updated to Build 21.2.30411 Beta (from whatever the previous Beta release was, 21.1?) and the GPU acceleration got all wonky. RCX will now only open some of my clips (mostly it just shows black and the spinning orange symbol in the bottom right corner of the viewer) if I have GPU acceleration on. All my clips work just fine if I turn GPU off. And they worked just fine with GPU on with the previous build.

I'm running OS X 10.7.4 on a Hackintosh build with dual 580GTXs.

EDIT to add: With 21.2 I seemed to be getting nothing but black with most of my clips with OpenCL enabled, with 21.1 I'm getting black with just the clips from one single shoot. The same clips open just fine with OpenCL disabled. The clips from this shoot have RMDs, so I'm guessing the problem with 21.1 has to do with those. I'll update if I can figure out any logic on what clips won't work with 21.2.

EDIT2: Clips from another shoot that have RMDs do work with 21.1 and OpenCL enabled and one single clip from the shoot where clips won't open will open with OpenCL enabled with 21.1. Strange.

Also, video out on my Decklink will only work with OpenCL disabled. If it's enabled I get the spinning orange symbol when I try to enable video out.

EDIT3: The problem actually seems to be the same with 21.2 and 21.1. When I first tried 21.2 I had video out enabled and that made it not want to open any clips. So the problems I have with 21.1 and 21.2 are identical: OpenCL enabled won't open the clips from one of my shoots (except for one clip) and Decklink video out only works with OpenCL disabled.

21.2 fixed my issue... and the Red guys fixed it faster than I think any bug report I've made to an outside vendor (and I've made a LOT).

Glad to hear David.

Jaakko: would it be possible to supply a clip (or snapshot) that works with OpenCL off but not on? Please email the snapshot (or download link) to redcinex at red

Thanks,

Hey Rob, is there any possibility that using Intel's Iris IGP (the one with OpenCL 1.2 support) will actually help debayering in RCXp21b? I think it only has 128m eDRAM and then shares with system, but it'd be cool if even the lower end 13" Retinas (and presumably 15" if the rumours of them ditching discrete gpus is true) had a little extra help in the debarring/playback department.

Thanks,
I sent in an R3D still with an RMD from a clip like that. The clips (and the still) work with OpenCL enabled if I remove the RMDs, so it definitely has to do with the RMD. If I change the settings of the clip in RCX with OpenCL off (so that it resaves the RMD) the clips still won't open with OpenCL enabled.

No flickering while on that curve. Pulling 1/2 rez @23.98fps on both win7 and osx86.

In 21.2/windows, EXR output with GPU enabled is broken.

Files output, but they are a corrupt - looks like a 2bit image.

Compression/ACES/Writers option have no effect.

Disable GPU, CPU and Rocket EXR renders are OK.

GPU output of TIFF,DPX are OK.

I still can't get openexr output to work with the new build, can anyone output to openexr on windows platform ?

I'm getting few issues with Beta 21.1 and 21.2 with playback AND grading.
MPB Retina playing back via Promise TB raid and a Sonnet Echo Chassis with Rocket. I get realtime playback no problem. As I scrub through a clip the play head always skips back to the start. I can't scrub halfway into a clip then hit space bar (or play on the Avid Artist Panel) and it play from where the playhead was. It just jumps back to the start every time.

Also, my viewer window just locks into a clip after a few seconds while the Rocket still outputs properly. When this happens I seem to lose the option of any meta data adjustment. I'm basically locked into whatever I had previously set for that clip. My panel also dies. It shows the sliders moving in the look window, however nothing actually changes on the clip, in the viewer, or on my sdi output.

Any suggestions?

What is the typical size per EXR file? I'm getting around 108MB for my exports, that is the correct file size I imagine?

A little bug has cropped up in all our systems now, in Redcine X Pro 21.1 and 21.2. Unable to select or modify any Quicktime Codec settings except audio, the window pops up and disappears, unable to select anything or change anything, the only option is to cancel out of the Quicktime preset all together. Just did a fresh install of the whole OS and the issue is still there, must be related to another app or codec install or update. I've already tried installing the new FCP Red update as well, no luck.

The only time I've been able to create presets for the Quicktime codec setting was when Redcine X Pro was the only Program installed, right after a complete reinstall of the Mac OS X. On the other systems I already have most or all of the presets I need, but if you can't create presets on a brand new install, its a bit more problematic.
