I don't know.. but I will start the thread... thanks

Can someone confirm whether or not manual fan control has been removed from the newest bulld.

If yes, why.

yup.. its gone. its one of those manual things that too many people got confused over.

I can appreciate the frustration on Red's part that lead to that decision, but I can't for the life of me understand why it was so hard for people to figure that out. Manual was always the best way to keep the camera cool and quiet. Maybe the adaptive mode will work for me once I get the new top fan, but so far it's not as quiet as I'd run the camera on manual. I'll have to play more with the quiet rec & prev to see how it controls camera temp.

Seems odd to have only three automatic modes.

Hi David. This particular firmware resets the temp limit on the Adaptive mode to 65°C. I tend to run my camera either at 65°C and 70°C for indoor work while rolling audio. Give that a try.

Adaptive showing it's strength on productions being "run quiet" with the new scaling algorithm and you can set the temperature limit within it's settings. Even in very hot conditions it will scale the fan speed to keep the temperature within safe limits.

Quiet Preview and Record is said to be the most silent way to run your camera if you need that sort of support.

I think many have had mixed feelings about the old fans logic being too loud and I'm more or less surprised to see people sad to see it go. There was certainly a lot of public criticism about it and now Red solved that "user request". I haven't stopped using Adaptive since that firmware update came out. I honestly don't see any real conditions where you'd need anything other than those two modes.

This is perhaps true if you have installed the new fans, but I find the camera quieter in manual than adaptive with only the original fan installed. Perhaps quiet p&r will keep the camera cool on interview takes. Some testing to be done there.

It just seems odd for a pro camera not to allow manual control for the odd situations we find ourselves in. For what it's worth, I've always hated the auto mode, and would have been totally fine with seeing it disappear.

Hi Phil. I've been doing that, and it works great until I get to a quiet interview or a close dialog scene. Then I can get quieter on manual. As I say, I've also got some testing to do with the QPR mode. I'd like to see how it handles longer takes.

All this is without the addition of the new top fan. I'm sure that makes a difference in all of these equations. It's on it's way, so I'll be testing with that soon.

There is a REDmote update as well (v8.0.2). You should be prompted to upgrade your REDmote when you attach it to the camera. Or, as always you can upgrade with the PC/Mac utility if you like.

I've loved this build since I started using it with the Motion Mount testing we were doing a while back. stoked to have a public version out, so many great improvements. Shortcuts I think are my current favorite.

I tried that today with no success from the audio guy complaining that they could hear the fan 5 times today. Each time got very frustrating when the sound guy said, I hear the fan... Had to jump to auto, that exploded with fan noise at standby, (I thought them days were over!). I guess I'm gonna have to live with quiet preview. Until they bring back quiet record, (don't care about manual).

Can I ask Red to revisit the decision on manual fan mode? It is not a good decision. I have tried out all combinations and it is by far the best outcome for people who know what they are doing. Removing choice is not a good thing. Please Red think again about this - this is a major one for me.

I have tried adaptive mode and it is just not working for me.

I'm finding the touchscreen a little bit less responsive than the previous build, but the new features make up for it. As for design (look) of the interface, I think I prefer the previous one, but hey, I tend to be nostalgic. Great job on the features and improvements, its incredible- we get a new camera every few months. And always a better one!

Hey guys is it possible or can you give me a ramping setting where I can lock in fps jumps? meaning I want to use ramping and choose ...in point: 24fps -200fps-24fps-300fps.. ending: 24fps

Ramp mode now has 4 set points A - D (and a reset back to the starting frame rate). There are also 5 corresponding key actions that can be mapped to any key: 'Record: Start Speed Ramp A/B/C/D/Reset'

In your case your base rate would be 24. You can set Ramp A to 200 fps and Ramp B to 300 fps. Using the key actions you can easily ramp in the sequence you described.

I'm also going to request that manual fan mode be brought back.

For a long interview, in a concrete room, I would sooner have a slightly louder constant fan noise, then a ramp from quiet to louder over a long period. Much harder to dial out background in sound post after edit with variable sound levels then a steady one...

Yes manual fan mode is very useful in some kind of situation.

Thanks for the info Trent...I will run test on my EPIC =)
